Harnessing Photo‐Energy Conversion in Nanomaterials for Precision Theranostics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 48, December 3, 2025.
Harnessing photo‐energy conversion in nanomaterials enables precision theranostics through light‐driven mechanisms such as photoluminescence, photothermal, photoelectric, photoacoustic, photo‐triggered surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), and photodynamic processes. This review explores six fundamental principles of photo‐energy conversion, recent

Nonlinear imaging through a golden spiral multicore fiber

open access: yes, 2018
We report two-photon lensless imaging through a novel golden spiral multicore fiber. This unique layout optimizes the sidelobe levels, field of view, cross-talk, group delay and mode density to achieve a sidelobe contrast of atleast 10.9 dB.

Integrated Wireless-Optical Backhaul and Fronthaul Provision Through Multicore Fiber

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
In this paper we propose multicore fiber (MCF) as the medium to transport the different signals associated with various wireless applications (ranging from access to fronthauling and backhauling) from the baseband unit (BBU) to the cell-site.

FBG‐driven simulation for virtual augmentation of fluoroscopic images during endovascular interventions

open access: yesHealthcare Technology Letters, Volume 11, Issue 6, Page 392-401, December 2024.
This paper proposes a novel solution that enhances fluoroscopic 2D images in real‐time by displaying virtual configurations of the catheter and guidewire. In contrast to existing works, proposing either simulators or simple augmented reality frameworks, this approach involves a predictive simulation showing the resulting shape of the catheter after ...

High‐Dimensional Quantum Communication: Benefits, Progress, and Future Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, Volume 2, Issue 12, December 2019., 2019
Quantum communication with states living in d‐dimensional Hilbert spaces, qudits, yields great benefits. However, qudits generation, transmission, and detection is not a simple task to accomplish. This review presents the state‐of‐the‐art on the generation, propagation, and measurement of high‐dimensional quantum states, highlighting their advantages ...

Extended field-of-view in a lensless endoscope using an aperiodic multicore fiber

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate lensless endoscopy using coherent beam combining and aperiodic multicore fibers (MCF). We show that diffracted orders, inherent to MCF with periodically arranged cores, dramatically reduce the field of view (FoV) and that randomness in MCF

Frequency-interleaved SDM transmission over multicore fiber for next generation short-reach optical interconnect systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Space division multiplexing (SDM) technique is proposed to overcome the bandwidth density drives of short-reach optical transmission systems by utilizing 8-core multicore fiber (MCF).

Short-Reach MCF-Based Systems Employing KK Receivers and Feedforward Neural Networks for ICXT Mitigation

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
This paper proposes and evaluates the use of machine learning (ML) techniques for mitigating the effect of the random inter-core crosstalk (ICXT) on 256 Gb/s short-reach systems employing weakly coupled multicore fiber (MCF) and Kramers–Kronig (KK ...

On conditions influencing widespread deployment and commercialisation of space division multiplexing optical fibres in submarine cable systems

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 169-178, December 2024.
Conditions and technologies that are likely to govern the widespread acceptance and use of spatial division multiplexing fibres, such as multicore fibre, are examined. Abstract The authors examine the state of submarine cable systems and conditions affecting potential widespread deployment of new spatial division multiplexing technologies, such as ...

The Photonic Lantern [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Photonic lanterns are made by adiabatically merging several single-mode cores into one multimode core. They provide low-loss interfaces between single-mode and multimode systems where the precise optical mapping between cores and individual modes is ...
