Multidisciplinary Design Optimization for Aircraft Configurations
47th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference<BR> 14th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference<BR> 7th, 2006The aim of this paper is to present an MDO procedure and an associated overview of the work code called MAGIC, (Multidisciplinary Aircraft desiGn of Innovative Configurations), for conceptual design of aircraft configurations in civil aviation. The algorithms used in MAGIC for modeling structures, aerodynamics, and aeroelasticity are first-principles ...

Multi-modular design optimization and multidisciplinary design optimization
International Journal of Intelligent Unmanned Systems, 2015Purpose – For complex engineering problems, multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) techniques use some disciplines that need to be run several times in different modules. In addition, mathematical modeling of a discipline can be improved for each module. The purpose of this paper is to show that multi-modular design

Multidisciplinary Design Optimization of a Frigate
Ship Technology Research, 2005Ship design is addressed as a multidisciplinary optimisation problem. Two criteria are considered, namely the total drag of the ship and its behaviour in waves, characterising the range and the operability of the ship. The necessary analysis is carried out via numerical codes based on potential flow models.

Interval Multidisciplinary Design Optimization
2020This chapter introduces the interval model into the multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) problem, and whereby constructs an interval MDO model for complex MDO problems with uncertainties. A solution strategy is also given to solve the interval MDO model.

Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Theory
2020Sobieski, the founder of multidisciplinary design optimization, believes that there are six key technologies for multidisciplinary design optimization: mathematical modeling, design-oriented analysis, approximate technology, optimization processes, system sensitivity analysis, and artificial interfaces (Sobieszczanski-Sobieski and Haftka 1996), the ...

Interaction balance optimization in multidisciplinary design optimization problems
Concurrent Engineering, 2015As a bi-level optimization method, collaborative optimization can solve multidisciplinary design optimization problems in practical engineering effectively. However, if there are high-dimensional couplings in a multidisciplinary design optimization problem, a large number of compatibility constraints will be required in collaborative optimization.

Multidisciplinary Design Optimization: Designed by Computer
2015Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) has been a field of research for 25 years. It refers to the formulation of the design problem in mathematical models and applying optimization techniques to find the minimum or maximum of a predefined objective function, possibly subject to a set of constraints.

Multidisciplinary Design Optimization for the Preliminary Design of Aeronautical Configurations
45th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics & Materials Conference, 2004The paper presents an approach developed primarily by the authors for the integrated modeling of structures, aerodynamics, aeroelasticity and ight mechanics. The motivation for the formulation is MDO/PD (Multi{Disciplinary Optimization for Preliminary Design) for innovative aircraft congurations, and is therefore rst{principle based, since in this case

Collaborative Multidisciplinary Design Optimization
Leadership and Management in Engineering, 2001Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) has been relegated to a process centered about a series of mathematical procedures. Although the early MDO framework of the 1990s was structured, it retained the basic elements of concurrent engineering, which included qualitative as well as quantitative factors.

Collaboration and multidisciplinary design optimization for mechatronic systems
IECON 2019 - 45th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2019The design of mechatronic systems requires the collaboration between different engineers at the disciplinary level and multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) in the system level. However, the lack of a common knowledge basis between the system and disciplinary levels creates a gap between them.
