Multidisciplinary optimization of a butterfly valve
ISA Transactions, 2009A butterfly valve is a type of flow control device, typically used to regulate fluid flow. This paper proposes a new process to meet desired needs in valve design that is characterized by the complex configuration. First, the need is identified according to the valve user/company, and then the problem is defined with a characteristic function.

Collaborative Multidisciplinary Design Optimization
Leadership and Management in Engineering, 2001Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) has been relegated to a process centered about a series of mathematical procedures. Although the early MDO framework of the 1990s was structured, it retained the basic elements of concurrent engineering, which included qualitative as well as quantitative factors.

Object oriented multidisciplinary design optimization
8th Symposium on Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization, 2000Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) will be applied as a decision support tool to a large-scale industrial system. The multidisciplinary system will be modeled in an object-oriented language, Adaptive Modeling Language (AML). As it is specifically designed to model concurrent engineering systems, it will be used to capture the knowledge of the ...

Multidisciplinary Optimization of Aeronautical Systems
Journal of Aircraft, 1990T special section (this issue and the Jan. 1991 issue) on Multidisciplinary Optimization of Aeronautical Systems comes nearly a decade after Holt Ashley surveyed the same subject in a now-classic Wright Brothers Lecture (published in this journal in Jan. 1982). It was a decade of vigorous development from which optimization emerged as a new methodology

Multidisciplinary Shape Optimization
1986Shape optimization is expanded here beyond the specific discipline of structural synthesis to consider the spectrum of design tasks which fall into the general multidisciplinary category. This logical extension of optimization is a fruitful area of research and applications.

Multidisciplinary turbomachinery blade design optimization
38th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2000The development of an optimization environment for multidisciplinary turbomachinery blade design is presented. The optimization environment simplifies the use of various optimization and evaluation methods. An advanced blade parameterization scheme is developed, in order to perform particular blade modifications with a limited number of optimization ...
