Integrating polygenic and transcriptional risk scores for detecting Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is essential, yet existing biomarkers are invasive or costly. Polygenic risk scores (PRS) and transcriptional risk scores (TRS) may offer accessible alternatives, but their combined predictive performance remains understudied.

The Association Between Physical Activity and Domain‐Specific Cognitive Function in the Elderly: A Cross‐Sectional Study and Genetic Analysis

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Graphical abstract of the relationship between physical activity and cognitive function in older adults. Regular activity was associated with better cognitive performance, and vigorous‐intensity physical activity showed stronger genetic benefits across multiple cognitive domains.

Association Between Brain Care Score and Cognitive Performance: Findings From a Community‐Based Cohort in Singapore

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
In a community‐based Singapore cohort (n = 5, 224), higher Brain Care Score (BCS), reflecting modifiable brain health risk factors, is associated with better cognitive performance. Each incremental increase in BCS corresponds to lower odds of impaired memory and improved executive function.

Machine Learning Unveils Dietary Antioxidants as Influential Factors for Diabetes‐Cancer Comorbidity: Insights From National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study employs an interpretable machine learning framework to predict diabetes‐cancer comorbidity, with the Random Forest and LightGBM models demonstrating exceptional performance. SHAP value analysis reveals that while advanced age and cardiometabolic dysfunctions serve as primary risk drivers, dietary antioxidants (particularly daidzein and ...

Diagnostic Accuracy of Cardiovascular Disease Prediction Models: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Validation Studies

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aim Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are widely accepted to be the most serious health care problem in the world. We performed a diagnostic test accuracy systematic review and meta‐analysis to establish the real‐world performance of established CVD risk prediction tools, providing high‐certainty evidence to optimize primary ...

Impact of lung cancer screening eligibility criteria on participants' characteristics and healthcare resources

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 9, Page 2359-2368, 1 May 2026.
What's new? Inclusion criteria for lung cancer screening (LCS) maintain cost control by focusing resources on select high‐risk groups. However, eligible individuals are inherently dissimilar in risk profile and demographics, potentially impacting LCS effectiveness and uptake.
