A Comprehensive Model of Multilateral Well Deliverability

Proceedings of International Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition in China, 2000
Abstract We developed a deliverability model to predict the performance of multilateral wells. We first constructed a horizontal lateral model, which couples a reservoir inflow model with a wellbore flow model to calculate the production rate from each lateral. Pressure drop along the lateral was considered in the model.

The Economic Viability of Multilateral Wells

Proceedings of IADC/SPE Drilling Conference, 2000
AbstractMultilateral wells are receiving much attention in the oil industry. Despite the increasing amount of publicity, multilateral wells in practice account for only a small fraction of the total number of wells drilled in the world today. One reason for this limited application may be that the economic benefit of drilling these wells may be in ...

Stability of Junctures for Multilateral/Multibranched Wells

SPE Asia Pacific Improved Oil Recovery Conference, 1999
Abstract In creating complex well architecture a primary exercise is the initiation of a second branch from an existing "parent" or "mother" hole. The latter can be vertical, inclined or horizontal. The branch can be initiated at a range of angles depending on the drilling hardware used.

Study of Multilateral-Well-Construction Reliability

SPE Drilling & Completion, 2017
Summary Multilaterals are often cited as technology that can be implemented to maximize reservoir-recovery rates. However, few operators have been willing to put multilaterals into practice. The most frequently cited reason for not considering multilaterals is risk.

The Optimum Junction Depth for Multilateral Wells

International Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition in China, 2000
AbstractPlacement of the multilateral junction is one of the most critical elements in the design of a multilateral well. A misplaced or mal-performing junction can have an adverse effect on an otherwise successful multilateral project. The optimum placement of the junction is a function of reservoir, geological, drilling, and completion criteria.
