Hemostatic Multilayer Coatings
Advanced Materials, 2011Spray layer-by-layer assembly is used to create hemostatic films containing thrombin and tannic acid. The spray assembly technique enables coating of porous and absorbent commercial gelatin sponges with these films. Coated sponges are able to promote instantaneous hemostasis in a porcine spleen bleeding model.

Ordered Polyelectrolyte Multilayers. Rules Governing Layering in Organic Binary Multilayers
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2003We study the growth and internal structure of polyelectrolyte multilayers obtained by combining three polyanions with nine polycations of the ionene family, of systematically varied chemical architecture. We find that, contrary to a generally held belief, ordered organic multilayers are by no way exceptional, provided one of the polyelectrolytes bears ...

Sectioning of multilayers to make a multilayer Laue lens
Review of Scientific Instruments, 2007We report a process to fabricate multilayer Laue lenses (MLL’s) by sectioning and thinning multilayer films. This method can produce a linear zone plate structure with a very large ratio of zone depth to width (e.g., >1000), orders of magnitude larger than can be attained with photolithography.

Bifurcation of Elastic Multilayers
2013The occurrence of a bifurcation in a multilayer structure during loading sets a limit on its deformability, and therefore represents an important factor in the design of composites. Since bifurcationis strongly influenced by the contact conditions at the interfaces between the layers, the mechanical modeling of these conditions is crucial.

Self-Organizing MultiLayer Perceptron
IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, 2010In this paper, we propose an extension of a self-organizing map called self-organizing multilayer perceptron (SOMLP) whose purpose is to achieve quantization of spaces of functions. Based on the use of multilayer perceptron networks, SOMLP comprises the unsupervised as well as supervised learning algorithms.

Different phases of tungsten are produced by magnetron sputtering under different preparation conditions: stable alpha-W phase (b.c.c. structure) is obtained at low working gas pressure, metastable beta-W phase (A15 struc-ture) is obtained at increased working gas pressure, and amorphous-like tung-sten (a-W) is obtained at even higher pressure.
