Zero Inductor-Voltage Multilevel Bus Converter

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2018
A novel topology to achieve 4:1 voltage step down, aimed at 48 V to 12 V conversion in data center applications, is presented. The so-called dc-transformer topologies have become a very active area of research to improve the overall efficiency of data centers in response to a shift from a 12 Vdc bus architecture to a 48 Vdc bus architecture.

Introduction to Multilevel Converters

2014
Multilevel converters have found an important position among applications as high-power converters. Also, they are widely used in renewable energy sources where multilevel converters appear as a link between renewable sources, such as wind, fuel cells, photovoltaic modules from one side and high-power loads from the other side.

TORUS BIFURCATIONS IN MULTILEVEL CONVERTER SYSTEMS

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2011
This paper considers the processes of torus formation and reconstruction through smooth and nonsmooth bifurcations in a pulse-width modulated DC/DC converter with multilevel control. When operating in a regime of high corrector gain, converters of this type can generate structures of stable tori embedded one into the other and with their basins of ...

The delta configured modular multilevel converter

2016 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2016
The modular multilevel converter (MMC) has become an attractive option for dc/ac conversion in many power system applications, in particular, for HVDC transmission. Due to its parallel arrangement of phase legs, the MMC is known to be a wye-configured architecture.

Capacitor selection for modular multilevel converter

2014 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2014
Submodule (SM) capacitor is a key component in a modular multilevel converter (MMC), the selection of which must consider the component’s specifications and the requirements of the targeted converter application. This paper focuses on the capacitor selection for MMCs in applications including high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission and static ...

Multilevel converters-a new breed of power converters

IAS '95. Conference Record of the 1995 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirtieth IAS Annual Meeting, 1996
Multilevel voltage source converters are emerging as a new breed of power converter options for high-power applications. The multilevel voltage source converters typically synthesize the staircase voltage wave from several levels of DC capacitor voltages.

Multisampling in interleaved converters and modular multilevel converters

IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2016
This paper presents a method for sampling the analog variables and running the controller in multi-cell converters with a frequency higher than the switching frequency. First we introduce the multi-cell converters and highlight their similarities. Next we describe the devised method and explain the strategy to avoid simultaneous sampling and switching ...
