Arresting Microphase Separation Encodes Material Mechanics by Sculpting Microarchitectures and Local Polymer Enrichment

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Microarchitecture sculpting via phase separation programs hydrogel mechanics by creating globular, inverse globular, and spinodal structures. Spinodal architectures deliver superior toughness and energy dissipation, while ionic modulation through single polymer phase separation offers a simple, scalable route to tune mechanical properties ...

Ranking Series of Cancer-Related Gene Expression Data by Means of the Superposing Significant Interaction Rules Method

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2020
The Superposing Significant Interaction Rules (SSIR) method is a combinatorial procedure that deals with symbolic descriptors of samples. It is able to rank the series of samples when those items are classified into two classes.

Emergent Freestanding Complex Oxide Membranes for Multifunctional Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review surveys freestanding oxide membranes and covers fabrication and three pathways for studies and devices: strain‐free and strained membranes, and van der Waals‐integrated heterostructures. We show how coupled oxide responses map onto these routes and cross‐couple to expand behaviors.

From rough path estimates to multilevel Monte Carlo

open access: yes, 2016
New classes of stochastic differential equations can now be studied using rough path theory (e.g. Lyons et al. [LCL07] or Friz--Hairer [FH14]). In this paper we investigate, from a numerical analysis point of view, stochastic differential equations ...

Bio‐Inspired Hierarchical Nanoreactor With Hetero‐Coordinated Fe–P–Co Bridges for Whole‐Pathway‐Regulated Electrocatalytic Oxygen Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A bioinspired Co‐doped Fe2P on N‐doped carbon with a hierarchical eucalyptus‐like nanoarchitecture is engineered to regulate oxygen across the entire electrochemical pathway, achieving a half‐wave potential of 0.938 V vs. RHE, sustaining 373 h of discharge in Al‐air batteries, and delivering an energy density of 3487 Wh/kg.

Improved Estimation Procedures for Multilevel Models with Binary Response: A Case-Study

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A: Statistics in Society, 2001
Summary During recent years, analysts have been relying on approximate methods of inference to estimate multilevel models for binary or count data. In an earlier study of random-intercept models for binary outcomes we used simulated data to demonstrate that one such approximation, known as marginal quasi-likelihood, leads to a ...

Field‐Effect Transistors from Artificial Charged Domain Walls in Stacked Van der Waals Ferroelectric α‐In2Se3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study utilizes the van der Waals stacking of ferroelectric α$\alpha$‐In2Se3 to fabricate in‐plane artificial charged domain walls. These charged domain walls are electrically accessible, gate‐tunable, and show 2–9 orders of magnitude higher conductance than charged domain walls from thin film ferroelectrics, allowing their integration in field ...
