ADMM-Softmax: an ADMM approach for multinomial logistic regression [PDF]

open access: yesETNA - Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis, 2020
We present ADMM-Softmax, an alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) for solving multinomial logistic regression (MLR) problems. Our method is geared toward supervised classification tasks with many examples and features. It decouples the nonlinear optimization problem in MLR into three steps that can be solved efficiently.

Single‐Field Evolution Rule Governs the Dynamics of Representational Drift in Mouse Hippocampal Dorsal CA1 Region

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Long‐term hippocampal place‐code dynamics are investigated using calcium imaging across weeks of maze navigation. Analyses reveal a novelty‐irrelevant Single‐Field Evolution Rule (SFER), where active fields promote persistence and inactive fields decline.

A generic nomogram for multinomial prediction models: theory and guidance for construction

open access: yesDiagnostic and Prognostic Research, 2017
Background The use of multinomial logistic regression models is advocated for modeling the associations of covariates with three or more mutually exclusive outcome categories.

Geochemical Discrimination of Monazite Source Rock Based on Machine Learning Techniques and Multinomial Logistic Regression Analysis

open access: yes, 2020
Detrital monazite geochronology has been used in provenance studies. However, there are complexities in the interpretation of age spectra due to their wide occurrence in both igneous and metamorphic rocks. We use the multinomial logistic regression (MLR)

The Geometry of Layer 2/3 Cortical Sound Processing in Slow Wave Sleep

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sleep is associated with a sensory disconnection whose mechanisms remain elusive. Large neuronal population recordings in the auditory cortex revealed that, in NREM sleep, the neural code for sounds is highly similar to wakefulness, but coordinated modulations of neuron responsiveness intermittently disconnect the local cortical networks from sensory ...

Women as main earners in Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper conducts a cross-sectional empirical research aimed at documenting that couples with women as main earners represent a non-negligible share of the European populations today.

Unilateral sensorineural hearing loss identification based on double-density dual-tree complex wavelet transform and multinomial logistic regression

open access: yesIntegr. Comput. Aided Eng., 2019
AIM: Unilateral sensorineural hearing loss is a brain disease, which causes slight morphology changes within brain structure. Traditional manual method may ignore this change. METHOD: In this work, we developed a novel method, based on the double-density

Dollars for Drops: Abatement Cost of Water for Irrigation in the Colorado River Basin

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Colorado River is a lifeline for more than 40 million people in the western United States. However, with climate change diminishing snowpacks in the Rocky Mountains and increasing demands from agriculture and urban areas, the river's flow has become insufficient to meet all the competing needs.
