Measuring Nutrition Security Using the Consumer Food Data System Datasets

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nutrition security is an emerging concept lacking a consensus definition, conceptualization, or standardized measure. This perspectives manuscript synthesizes findings from two previously published analyses to assess the feasibility of using available measures of key dimensions of nutrition security from two Consumer Food Data System (CFDS ...

Multinomial logit random effects models [PDF]

open access: yesStatistical Modelling, 2001
This article presents a general approach for logit random effects modelling of clustered ordinal and nominal responses. We review multinomial logit random effects models in a unified form as multivariate generalized linear mixed models. Maximum likelihood estimation utilizes adaptive Gauss-Hermite quadrature within a quasi-Newton maximization algorithm.

Ridge Estimation for Multinomial Logit Models with Symmetric Side Constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In multinomial logit models, the identifiability of parameter estimates is typically obtained by side constraints that specify one of the response categories as reference category.

Determinants of local food producer participation in state‐sponsored marketing programs: Evidence from Missouri

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examines producer participation choices considering a variety of potential benefits linked to state‐sponsored marketing programs, using a real choice dataset of farmers in Missouri. Multinomial logit models are employed to predict determinants of farmer enrollment in three tiers of the Missouri Grown local food marketing program ...

Estimating Multinomial Logit Models with Samples of Alternatives [PDF]

open access: yesSociological Methodology, 2018
This comment reconsiders advice offered by Bruch and Mare regarding sampling choice sets in conditional logistic regression models of residential mobility. Contradicting Bruch and Mare’s advice, past econometric research shows that no statistical correction is needed when using simple random sampling of unchosen alternatives to pare down respondents ...
