Conformal Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces: A Cylindrical Geometry Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Cylindrical reconfigurable intelligent surfaces are explored for low‐complexity beam steering using one‐bit meta‐atoms. A multi‐level modeling approach, including optimization‐based synthesis, demonstrates that even minimal hardware can support directive scattering.

Skywave Ionosphere Communication Channel Characteristics for Hypersonic Vehicles at a Typical Frequency of 14 MHz

open access: yesRemote Sensing
This study starts from the physical perspective of electromagnetic wave propagation in ionosphere media, and the skywave OTH (over-the-horizon) ionosphere channel model is established for hypersonic vehicles based on the ray-tracing method, and this ...

Comparison of MIMO channels from multipath parameter extraction and direct channel measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This work presents a MIMO throughput performance analysis of dynamic wideband double-directional channel measurements that were recently obtained by the University of Bristol. Identical 16-element uniform circular arrays (UCAs) were employed at both ends

Impact of Biomimetic Pinna Shape Variation on Clutter Echoes: A Machine Learning Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Bats with dynamic ear structures navigate dense, echo‐rich environments, yet the echoes they receive are highly random. This study shows that machine learning can reliably detect structural signatures in these seemingly chaotic biosonar signals. The results open new directions for biologically inspired sensing, where time‐varying receiver shapes ...

Degeneracy Sensing Light Detection and Ranging‐Inertial Simultaneous Localization and Mapping with Dual‐Layer Resistant Odometry and Scan‐Context Loop‐Closure Detection Backend in Diverse Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This paper presents a degeneracy‐aware light detection and ranging (LiDAR)‐inertial framework that enhances LiDAR simultaneous localization and mapping performance in challenging environments. The proposed system integrates a dual‐layer robust odometry frontend with a Scan‐Context‐based loop‐closure detection backend.

Relation between multipath and wave propagation attenuation

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2003
A theoretical multi-slope wave propagation model is proposed based on ultra-wideband radio channel impulse response measurements in a dispersive channel. The theory, which applies to radiowave and acoustic propagation, relates multipath delay spread, propagation attenuation exponent, and the maximum possible rake gain for the multipath propagation ...

Numerical Analysis of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell Performance With a Lung Serpentine Flow Field

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) are regarded as the best clean energy conversion technology because of their smaller number of emissions and higher efficiency. This numerical investigation used two different flow channel designs—the serpentine flow field (SFF) and the lung serpentine flow field (LSFF)—with active areas of 5 by 5 cm.

Stochastic Multipath Model for the In-Room Radio Channel based on Room Electromagnetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We propose a stochastic multipath model for the received signal for the case where the transmitter and receiver, both with directive antennas, are situated in the same rectangular room.
