Clumpy Disc and Bulge Formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present a set of hydrodynamical/Nbody controlled simulations of isolated gas rich galaxies that self-consistently include SN feedback and a detailed chemical evolution model, both tested in cosmological simulations.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Atomic Size Misfit for Electrocatalytic Small Molecule Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores the application and mechanisms of atomic size misfit in catalysis for small molecule activation, focusing on how structural defects and electronic properties can effectively lower the energy barriers of chemical bonds in molecules like H2O, CO2, and N2.

Pore-scale simulation of multicomponent multiphase reactive transport with dissolution and precipitation

open access: yes, 2014
Multicomponent multiphase reactive transport processes with dissolution-precipitation are widely encountered in energy and environment systems. A pore-scale two-phase multi-mixture model based on the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is developed for such ...

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

Hydrodynamic modeling of ns-laser ablation

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2013
Laser ablation is a versatile and widespread technique, applied in an increasing number of medical, industrial and analytical applications. A hydrodynamic multiphase model describing nanosecond-laser ablation (ns-LA) is outlined.

Lattice Boltzmann Model for Axisymmetric Multiphase Flows

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper, a lattice Boltzmann (LB) model is presented for axisymmetric multiphase flows. Source terms are added to a two-dimensional standard lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE) for multiphase flows such that the emergent dynamics can be transformed ...

Pore-scale dynamics and the multiphase Darcy law

open access: yes, 2020
Synchrotron x-ray microtomography combined with sensitive pressure differential measurements were used to study flow during steady-state injection of equal volume fractions of two immiscible fluids of similar viscosity through a 57-mm-long porous ...

Overview and analysis of PM starter/generator for aircraft electrical power systems

open access: yesCES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2017
More Electrical Aircraft (MEA) which replaces the hydraulic and pneumatic power by electrical power leads to reducing emissions and fuel consumption. The MEA concept has led to a growing use of the starter/generator (S/G) system.
