Attenuation of multiphase surface waves in the Basin and Range Province-III. Inversion for crustal anelasticity [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1994
SUMMARY A combined inversion/forward modelling procedure, in which the frequency dependence of shear-wave internal friction (Qμ-1) is allowed to vary with depth, was developed and applied to selected Rayleigh wave and Lg attenuation data in the Basin and Range Province of the south-western United States.

Refining the timing of Middle Pleistocene (MIS 12 to MIS 6) ice advances into northern central Europe: sedimentological analysis and single‐grain luminescence dating of glaciotectonic complexes and tunnel‐valley fills

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.

Evaluating the Effects of Proppant Flowback on Fracture Conductivity in Tight Reservoirs: A Combined Analytical Modeling and Simulation Study

open access: yesEnergies
This work establishes an analytical model for determining the critical velocity for proppant flowback, and evaluates how proppant flowback affects fracture conductivity for tight reservoirs.

A Review of Gravitational Water Vortex Hydro Turbine Systems for Hydropower Generation

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Hydropower is one of the most sustainable and desirable renewable energy sources. Gravitational water vortex hydro turbine (GWVHT) systems are one of the most suitable and sustainable renewable power generation devices for remote and rural areas ...

A dimensional analysis of supersaturated total dissolved gas dissipation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Elevated levels of total dissolved gas (TDG) may occur downstream of dam discharges, leading to increased incidence of gas bubble disease in fish. Accelerating the dissipation of supersaturated TDG in the downstream river can mitigate this negative ...

Crustal Accretion in a Slow Spreading Back‐Arc Basin: Insights From the Mado Megamullion Oceanic Core Complex in the Shikoku Basin

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2020
Oceanic core complexes (OCCs) represent tectonic windows into the oceanic lower crust and mantle; they are key structures in understanding the tectono‐magmatic processes shaping the oceanic lithosphere.

Deep ductile shear localization facilitates near-orthogonal strike-slip faulting in a thin brittle lithosphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Some active fault systems comprise near-orthogonal conjugate strike-slip faults, as highlighted by the 2019 Ridgecrest and the 2012 Indian Ocean earthquake sequences.

Metal sources for the Katanga Copperbelt deposits (DRC) insights from Sr and Nd isotope ratios [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The ore deposits of the Central African Copperbelt formed during a multiphase mineralisation process. The basement underlying the Neoproterozoic Katanga Supergroup that hosts the ore, demonstrates the largest potential as metal source.

Frozen Soil Hydrological Processes and Their Effects: A Review and Synthesis

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 64, Issue 1, March 2026.
Abstract Frozen soils, including seasonally frozen ground and permafrost, are rapidly changing under a warming climate, with cascading effects on water, energy, and carbon cycles. We synthesize recent advances in the physics, observation, and modeling of frozen‐soil hydrology, emphasizing freeze–thaw dynamics, infiltration regimes and preferential flow,
