Derating of Multiphase Induction Machines Due to Supply Imbalance
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2009Open-loop variable-voltage variable-frequency control should offer an effective control strategy in many applications of multiphase machines, but increasing the number of phases can make the machine more sensitive to imbalance in the supply voltage, causing unequal current sharing between phases.

Behavior of multiphase induction machines with unbalanced stator resistances
2012 15th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (EPE/PEMC), 2012Multiphase drives are adopted mainly in high power applications, where the fault detection plays a key role in reducing the maintenance costs and preserving the machine integrity. Fault diagnostics is crucial also for all the applications requiring a high degree of reliability, such as aerospace or marine applications.

Analysis of multiphase induction machines with winding faults
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2006The paper shows how the techniques of generalized harmonic analysis may be used to simulate the steady-state behavior of a multiphase cage induction motor with any form of open-circuit or short-circuit fault in the stator winding. The analytical model is verified using a four-pole machine with a 48-slot stator.

Multiphase machines in propulsion drives of electric vehicles
Proceedings of 14th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference EPE-PEMC 2010, 2010Multiphase electric drives have been recently proposed for applications where the highest overall system reliability and power distribution per phase are required. The propulsion drive of an Electric Vehicle (EV) is one of these applications. This paper deals with the use of a five-phase induction machine in the propulsion module of EVs, where the ...

Synchronous reluctance machine with multiphase stator cage winding
2017 20th International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS), 2017Following publication considers synchronous reluctance machine with increased number of phases. The main goal of this research is to investigate the alternative solutions to the existing and well-known 3-phase electrical machines. In particular, a 5-phase reluctance machine with concentrated stator winding is briefly mentioned and a 42-phase electrical

Control of the Functioning of Multiphase Electric Machines
2016The chapter analyzes different approaches for nonlinear control of multi-phase electric machines: (i) H-infinity control of multi-phase synchronous electric machines, (ii) H-infinity control of doubly-fed reluctance machines, (iii) flatness-based adaptive control of doubly-fed reluctance machines.
