Is Proton Therapy Superior to Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for Sporadic Vestibular Schwannoma?

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
With changing practice patterns, radiation therapy for vestibular schwannomas has become an increasingly utilized treatment modality with high tumor control rates. Gamma‐Knife radiosurgery remains a well‐established and readily accessible option with good rates for tumor control, cranial nerve preservation, and hearing outcomes.

Optical Stimulation and Monitoring of the Peripheral Nervous System: Perspectives and Challenges Toward Clinical Translation

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Optical neuromodulation with IR light allows stimulation of the PNS without the need for physical contact with the target nerve or without requiring any genetic modification. The clinical translation of this technique will pave the way to the development of neural interfaces for restoring sensory feedback in individuals with limb amputation.

Acute paretic syndrome in juvenile White Leghorn chickens resembles late stages of acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathies in humans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Sudden limb paresis is a common problem in White Leghorn flocks, affecting about 1% of the chicken population before achievement of sexual maturity.

Bing Neel syndrome presenting as isolated cranial nerve palsies – a case report

open access: yeseNeurologicalSci
Background and aims: Waldenstroms macroglobulinemia (WM) is a low-grade B cell neoplasm. Bing Neel syndrome is a rare manifestation of WM characterized by infiltrative involvement of the central nervous system.

Sarcoid uveitis in a patient with multiple neurological lesions: a case report and review of the literature

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2018
Background Neurosarcoidosis is a rare complication, and cranial neuropathy is the most frequent manifestation of this disease. However, few cohesive reports have discussed multiple cranial neuropathies in Japanese patients with sarcoidosis.

Stem cell–mediated neuroplasticity and psychological recovery in cancer survivors: Mechanisms, evidence, and translational challenges

open access: yesPrecision Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
Cancer therapies can trigger neuroinflammation and disrupted neuroplasticity, contributing to cognitive impairment and psychological distress in survivors. Stem cells (NSCs/MSCs) and their extracellular vesicles may restore neural niches via trophic support, immunomodulation, synaptic remodeling, and vascular repair, but require rigorous safety, dosing,

Multiple Cranial Neuropathies Due to Glomus Tumor

open access: yes, 2017
This is a woman who was diagnosed with a right sided glomus tumor, and subsequently underwent resection. Seen here are multiple cranial neuropathies related to the tumor itself as well as to the surgery.

Upper limb entrapment neuropathies in multiple sclerosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Introduction Entrapment neuropathies of upper limbs such as carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndromes are common in the general population. Identification of entrapment neuropathies of upper limbs in patients with multiple sclerosis can be clinically

Age‐related clinical heterogeneity and peripheral T cell profile alterations in primary Sjögren's disease: A retrospective study of 5778 patients

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, EarlyView.
This large‐scale retrospective study of 5778 primary Sjögren's disease (SjD) patients, stratified by diagnostic age, defines a distinct clinical and immunological profile for early‐diagnosed (<45 years) disease. We identified early diagnosis as an independent risk factor for hypergammaglobulinemia and interstitial lung disease, underpinned by a ...
