A kinematical approach to gravitational lensing using new formulae for refractive index and acceleration

open access: yes, 2010
This paper uses the Schwarzschild metric to derive an effective refractive index and acceleration vector that account for relativistic deflection of light rays, in an otherwise classical kinematic framework.

Recent Progress in the Phase‐Controlled Synthesis of Ruthenium Nanocrystals for Catalytic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Template effect and kinetic control enable crystal‐phase engineering of Ru nanocrystals, granting access to either metastable fcc‐Ru or stable hcp‐Ru with distinct surface structures, thermal stabilities, and catalytic behaviors. Moreover, the hcp‐Ru can further serve as an epitaxial template to direct Pd and Rh nanocrystals into the metastable hcp ...

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Flow‐Adaptive Gas Sensing Enabled Using a Uniform Au Nanosheet Sensor Array and a Neural Network Inference

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Integrated Au nanosheet sensor array enables simultaneous inference of gas concentration and flow rate via deep neural network analysis, without external flow control. ABSTRACT Gas sensor responses are considerably affected by gas flow rates, thereby inhibiting the accurate detection of target gas concentrations in variable‐flow applications such as ...

Age and weekly physical activity are correlated with ballistic VR decision making and reaction time shooting performance at rest

open access: yesScientific Reports
Ballistic virtual reality (VR) can measure shooting performance reliably in trained and untrained subjects. The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether baseline traits such as age, habitual physical activity, and prior experience are ...

Direct Multiple Shooting Optimization with Variable Problem Parameters [PDF]

open access: yes
Taking advantage of a novel approach to the design of the orbital transfer optimization problem and advanced non-linear programming algorithms, several optimal transfer trajectories are found for problems with and without known analytic solutions.

In Situ Copper Electroplating Turns Material Extrusion 3D Printers Into Metal–Polymer Hybrid Fabricators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An in situ electroplating approach for MEX 3D printing is proposed, enabling copper deposition during the fabrication of conductive polymers. The method combines a printer‐integrated plating head, ML‐based g‐code control, and stop‐and‐go printing, achieving near‐bulk copper conductivity and enabling fully embedded, assembly‐free electronic components ...

Utilizing the National Basketball Association’s COVID-19 restart “bubble” to uncover the impact of travel and circadian disruption on athletic performance

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
On March 11th, 2020, the National Basketball Association (NBA) paused its season after ~ 64 games due to the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, only to resume ~ 5 months later with the top 22 teams isolated together (known as the “bubble”) in Orlando,
