A multiple spawning approach to tunneling dynamics
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2000Quantum mechanical tunneling effects are investigated using an extension of the full multiple spawning (FMS) method. The FMS method uses a multiconfigurational frozen Gaussian ansatz for the wave function and it allows for dynamical expansion of the basis set during the simulation. Basis set growth is controlled by allowing this expansion only when the

Paternity in horseshoe crabs when spawning in multiple-male groups
Animal Behaviour, 2000Unpaired or satellite male horseshoe crabs, Limulus polyphemus, are attracted to and often form a group around a pair (a female with an attached male) that is nesting in the high intertidal zone. These males are engaged in sperm competition. We observed nesting pairs and their associated satellites in the wild, collected and reared their eggs and used ...

Tracking of spawning targets with multiple finite resolution sensors
Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Information Fusion. FUSION 2002. (IEEE Cat.No.02EX5997), 2003In this paper the problem of tracking multiple spawning targets with multiple finite-resolution sensors is considered and a new algorithm for measurement-to-track association with possibly unresolved measurements is presented. The goal is to initialize new tracks of spawned targets before they are resolved from the mother platform so that one has the ...

Induced multiple spawnings of Chinese carps in Sri Lanka
Aquaculture, 1988Abstract Individual bighead and grass carp were induced to spawn two and three times, respectively, during the breeding season in Sri Lanka. Two injections of luteinizing hormone releasing hormone analogue (LHRH-a), human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), carp pituitary (PG) or a combination of two of these inducers were used.

Multiple spawning of the cyprinid loach, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus
Aquaculture, 1983Abstract The effects of multiple spawning on the egg output, and of previous spawning on the potential for repeat spawnings in the loach, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus , were examined to obtain basic information for the production of fry. Females which finished their first spawning spawned again within 20 days.

Body size and reproductive allocation in a multiple spawning centrarchid
Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 1998Reproductive allocation in the multiple-spawning pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus) was estimated in two non-native populations in southern France and one native Canadian population with experiments conducted in artificial enclosures, supplemented with data collected from wild populations.

Coral Reefs, 2004
Coral reproductive schedules have long been related to concomitant increases in regional sea surface temperature (SST). Yet, corals also mass spawn in the tropics, where SSTs vary little throughout the year. Here we show that the rise toward and fall from solar insolation maxima, which is the electromagnetic energy incident on the surface of the earth,

Semiclassical Real-Time Tunneling by Multiple Spawning of Classical Trajectories
Physical Review Letters, 2000We systematically extend semiclassical real-time propagation methods based on Gaussian wave packets by using the composition property of the time-dependent quantum-mechanical Green function. For the first time, in an application to the problem of barrier tunneling, a semiclassical time-domain calculation of the transmission probability exhibits good ...

Variation in multiple paternity in natural populations of a free‐spawning marine invertebrate
Molecular Ecology, 2007Abstract For free‐spawning marine invertebrates, fertilization processes control the genetic diversity of offspring. Each egg can potentially be fertilized by a sperm from a different male, and hence genetic diversity within a brood varies with levels of multiple paternity.
