Reconfigurable Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles with Therapeutic RNAi Responses to Intracellular Disease Markers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Many known diseases arise from dysregulated gene expression, and differentially expressed genes can serve as biomarkers to distinguish diseased cells from healthy tissues. In this study, reconfigurable nucleic acid nanoparticles (recNANPs) are introduced that can detect overexpressed cancer biomarkers and subsequently release RNAi inducers to silence ...

Fluorophobic Effect Enables Selective Detection of PFAS in Water with Electrolyte‐Gated Organic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
PerFluoroAlkyl Substances (PFAS) are responsible of major and persistent environmental pollution worldwide. This work demonstrates an ultra‐sensitive sensor for PFAS based on an organic transistor whose gate is functionalized with a binary self‐assembled monolayer containing a perfluorinated molecule.

Development of thirty-four new microsatellite loci and multiplexing of seven existing loci for Zootoca vivipara (Squamata: Lacertidae)

open access: yesPhyllomedusa: Journal of Herpetology, 2017
Few microsatellite loci exist for the European common lizard, Zootoca vivipara, a common model species in studies of population dynamics, sexual selection, population genetics, parity evolution, and physiology. The existing primers did not amplify in all

3D Concrete Printing of Triply Periodic Minimum Surfaces for Enhanced Carbon Capture and Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printable and carbon‐capturing concrete is developed by replacing cement with diatomaceous earth (DE), which enhances rheology, provides hierarchical porosity, and serves as a nucleation site for carbonation. Maximum absorption of 488.7 gCO2 kgcement−1 is achieved in 7 days, a 142% increase over conventional concrete, and the triply periodic ...

Mimicking Synaptic Plasticity: Optoionic MoS2 Memory Powered by Biopolymer Hydrogels as a Dynamic Cations Reservoir

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Janus (MoS2) transistors functionalized with sodium alginate (SA) and poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐trifluoroethylene) [P(VDF‐TrFE)] exhibit persistent photo‐induced ionic gating, driven by dynamic cation migration at the hybrid interface. This ionic mechanism enables finely tunable photoconductivity and emulates key synaptic plasticity behaviors ...

Ecological and Reproductive Cycles Drive Henipavirus Seroprevalence in the African Straw‐Coloured Fruit Bat (Eidolon helvum)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Bats are known to host zoonotic viruses, including henipaviruses that cause high fatality rates in humans (Nipah virus and Hendra virus). However, the determinants of zoonotic spillover are generally unknown, as the ecological and demographic drivers of ...
