An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

Generation of sub-daily precipitation time series anywhere in Switzerland by mapping the parameters of GWEX-MRC, an at-site weather generator

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology: Regional Studies
Study RegionSwitzerlandStudy FocusStochastic weather generators (WGENs) are a common tool for generating long precipitation scenarios, also needed at ungauged sites.

Multifractal magnetic susceptibility distribution models of hydrothermally altered rocks in the Needle Creek Igneous Center of the Absaroka Mountains, Wyoming [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2005
Magnetic susceptibility was measured for 700 samples of drill core from thirteen drill holes in the porphyry copper-molybdenum deposit of the Stinkingwater mining district in the Absaroka Mountains, Wyoming.

Chaotic Cascades with Kolmogorov 1941 Scaling

open access: yes, 1993
We define a (chaotic) deterministic variant of random multiplicative cascade models of turbulence. It preserves the hierarchical tree structure, thanks to the addition of infinitesimal noise. The zero-noise limit can be handled by Perron-Frobenius theory,

Log-correlated Gaussian fields: an overview [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We survey the properties of the log-correlated Gaussian field (LGF), which is a centered Gaussian random distribution (generalized function) $h$ on $\mathbb R^d$, defined up to a global additive constant. Its law is determined by the covariance formula $$

Multiplier phenomenology in random multiplicative cascade processes

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 1999
We demonstrate that the correlations observed in conditioned multiplier distributions of the energy dissipation in fully developed turbulence can be understood as an unavoidable artefact of the observation procedure. Taking the latter into account, all reported properties of both unconditioned and conditioned multiplier distributions can be reproduced ...

Stochastic equations generating continuous multiplicative cascades [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal B, 2001
Discrete multiplicative turbulent cascades are described using a formalism involving infinitely divisible random measures. This permits to consider the continuous limit of a cascade developed on a continuum of scales, and to provide the stochastic equations defining such processes, involving infinitely divisible stochastic integrals.

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Intermittent process analysis with scattering moments

open access: yes, 2015
Scattering moments provide nonparametric models of random processes with stationary increments. They are expected values of random variables computed with a nonexpansive operator, obtained by iteratively applying wavelet transforms and modulus ...
