A smoothing algorithm for systems with multiplicative noise [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1988
A fixed-point smoothing algorithm is derived for systems with multiplicative noise in the state channels of the plant and the measurements as well as additive noise. As in systems without multiplicative noise the smoothed estimates depend on the filtered estimates. The steady-state behavior of the algorithm is examined.

Transient behavior of a population dynamical model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The transient behavior of an ecosystem with N random interacting species in the presence of a multiplicative noise is analyzed. The multiplicative noise mimics the interaction with the environment.

Homogenization for deterministic maps and multiplicative noise [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2013
A recent paper of Melbourne & Stuart (2011 A note on diffusion limits of chaotic skew product flows. Nonlinearity 24 , 1361–1367 (doi:10.1088/0951-7715/24/4/018)) gives a rigorous proof of convergence of a fast–slow deterministic system to a stochastic differential equation with additive noise.

Data‐Driven Distributed Safe Control Design for Multi‐Agent Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This paper presents a data‐driven control barrier function (CBF) technique for ensuring safe control of multi‐agent systems (MASs) with uncertain linear dynamics. A data‐driven quadratic programming (QP) optimization is first developed for CBF‐based safe control of single‐agent systems using a nonlinear controller. This approach is then extended to the

The Analytical Solutions of the Stochastic mKdV Equation via the Mapping Method

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
Here, we analyze the (2+1)-dimensional stochastic modified Kordeweg–de Vries (SmKdV) equation perturbed by multiplicative white noise in the Stratonovich sense.

Infrared Neural Stimulation Elicits Distinct Molecular Pathways in Astrocytes Based on Laser Pulse Parameters

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Infrared (IR) light evokes distinct calcium and water transport responses in astrocytes, depending on stimulation duration and protocol. This study uses widefield imaging and pharmacology to reveal differential engagement of astroglial signaling pathways.

Bistable stochastic processes in the q-exponential family

open access: yes, 2010
Stochastic bistable systems whose stationary distributions belong to the q-exponential family are investigated using two approaches: (i) the Langevin model subjected to additive and quadratic multiplicative noise, and (ii) the superstatistical model ...

When multiplicative noise stymies control [PDF]

open access: yesThe Annals of Applied Probability, 2019
We consider the stabilization of an unstable discrete-time linear system that is observed over a channel corrupted by continuous multiplicative noise. Our main result shows that if the system growth is large enough, then the system cannot be stabilized in a second-moment sense.

Engineering the Hierarchical Porosity of Granular Hydrogel Scaffolds Using Porous Microgels to Improve Cell Recruitment and Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
By fabricating and covalently assembling gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) porous microgels, a new class of granular hydrogel scaffolds with hierarchical porosity is developed. These scaffolds have a significantly higher void fraction than their counterparts made up of nonporous microgels, enhancing cell recruitment and tissue integration. This research may

Unique Performance Considerations for Printable Organic Semiconductor and Perovskite Radiation Detectors: Toward Consensus on Best Practice Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A lack of standard approaches for testing and reporting the performance of metal halide perovskites and organic semiconductor radiation detectors has resulted in inconsistent interpretation of performance parameters, impeding progress in the field. This Perspective recommends key metrics and experimental details, which are suggested for reporting in ...
