Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Gershgorin disks for multiple eigenvalues of non-negative matrices

open access: yes, 2016
Gershgorin's famous circle theorem states that all eigenvalues of a square matrix lie in disks (called Gershgorin disks) around the diagonal elements. Here we show that if the matrix entries are non-negative and an eigenvalue has geometric multiplicity ...

Statistical Distributions of Morphologically Classified Defects in Metal Additive Manufacturing with Implications for Fatigue Life Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Morphological features of three defect types in metal additive manufacturing (AM)—lack of fusion, keyhole, and gas‐entrapped pores—are statistically characterized using best‐fit distributions evaluated via coefficient‐of‐determination, Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, and quantile–quantile plots.

Existence, multiplicity, and concentration of positive solutions for a quasilinear Choquard equation with critical exponent

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics and Physics, 2019
In this paper, we consider the quasilinear Choquard equations  −e2Δu+V(x)u−e2uΔu2=eμ−N∫RN|u(y)|p|x−y|μdy|u(x)|p−2u(x)+|u|22*−2u,  where e > 0 is a parameter, 0 0 is a parameter, 0 < μ < 2 < N, and ...

Geometry‐Based Scan Curve Analysis: Rapid Method for the Evaluation of Scan Strategies in Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents rapid evaluation methods for scan strategies in powder bed fusion (PBF) of polymers with a NIR laser as an example for its application. It uses line buffer‐based calculations and point density fields to predict the performance of four different scan strategies. The methods show promising results in laser‐based PBF of polymer samples,

Large‐Scale Interlaboratory Study Along the Entire Process Chain of Laser Powder Bed Fusion: Bridging Variability, Standards, and Optimization across Metals and Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
What happens when 32 labs join forces to study nanoparticle‐modified powders? A data‐driven journey through laser powder bed fusion—now openly accessible for the entire additive manufacturing community—is studied. Laser powder bed fusion is a cornerstone technology for additive manufacturing (AM) of metals and polymers, yet challenges in achieving ...

Bounds on the Hilbert-Kunz Multiplicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper we give new lower bounds on the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity of unmixed non-regular local rings, bounding them uniformly away from one. Our results improve previous work of Aberbach and Enescu.Comment: Some minor typos fixed, especially ...

Laser Additive Manufacturing of Oxide‐Dispersion‐Strengthened Steels: A Simulation‐Based Comparison Between Powder Bed Fusion and Direct Energy Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the size and distribution of dispersoids is essential for optimizing the performance of oxide‐dispersion‐strengthened steels. This study focuses on nanoparticle dispersion and agglomeration during laser additive manufacturing of Fe20Cr alloy reinforced with ZrO 2 nanoparticles. Utilizing multiphysics phase‐field simulations and nanoparticle
