Sharply 3-transitive Groups with Finite Element

open access: yesJournal of Siberian Federal University Mathematics & Physics, 2021
In this paper we study sharply 3-transitive groups. The local finiteness of sharply triply transitive permutation groups of characteristic p > 3 containing a finite element of order p is proved.

Bounds on the diameter of Cayley graphs of the symmetric group [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we are concerned with the conjecture that, for any set of generators S of the symmetric group of degree n, the word length in terms of S of every permutation is bounded above by a polynomial of n.

Galois theory on the line in nonzero characteristic [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992

Linear growth for semigroups which are disjoint unions of finitely many copies of the free monogenic semigroup [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We show that every semigroup which is a finite disjoint union of copies of the free monogenic semigroup (natural numbers under addition) has linear growth.

Spectral measures of factor of i.i.d. processes on vertex-transitive graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We prove that a measure on $[-d, d]$ is the spectral measure of a factor of i.i.d. process on a vertex-transitive infinite graph if and only if it is absolutely continuous with respect to the spectral measure of the graph.

Graphs having no quantum symmetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We consider circulant graphs having $p$ vertices, with $p$ prime. To any such graph we associate a certain number $k$, that we call type of the graph. We prove that for $p>>k$ the graph has no quantum symmetry, in the sense that the quantum automorphism ...

Locally compact convergence groups and n-transitive actions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
All sigma-compact, locally compact groups acting sharply n-transitively and continuously on compact spaces M have been classified, except for n=2,3 when M is infinite and disconnected. We show that no such actions exist for n=2 and that these actions for

Two Generalizations of Homogeneity in Groups with Applications to Regular Semigroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Let $X$ be a finite set such that $|X|=n$ and let $i\leq j \leq n$. A group $G\leq \sym$ is said to be $(i,j)$-homogeneous if for every $I,J\subseteq X$, such that $|I|=i$ and $|J|=j$, there exists $g\in G$ such that $Ig\subseteq J$.

A class of finite groups admitting certain sharp characters. II

an integer when X is faithful. Such (G, X) is called a sharp pair of type L* and X a sharp character provided B(n)=l. This concept generalizes that of sharply multiply―transitive permutation groups, where a rich theory of sharp pairs has been developed ...

On the width of transitive sets: Bounds on matrix coefficients of finite groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We say that a finite subset of the unit sphere in $\mathbf{R}^d$ is transitive if there is a group of isometries which acts transitively on it. We show that the width of any transitive set is bounded above by a constant times $(\log d)^{-1/2}$.
