Shared Resource Multiprocessing
Computer, 1972A good design is the Elderado in any systems area. The elements of good design include efficiency, simplicity, and flexibility for use. While we make no pretense that the ideas described in this paper are essential to good computer design, it seems to us that it does meet many of the criteria and avoids a number of the pitfalls associated with high ...

Structured flowcharts for multiprocessing
Computer Languages, 1978We present a flowchart language for parallel processing: in addition to the ''standard'' components, our flowcharts contain fork, join and synchronizing nodes. Extending the work of Mills, we suggest restrictions on controlling computation flow and show that any proper program can be algorithmically transformed to an equivalent structured program.

Continuation-based multiprocessing
Proceedings of the 1980 ACM conference on LISP and functional programming - LFP '80, 1980Any multiprocessing facility must include three features: elementary exclusion, data protection, and process saving. While elementary exclusion must rest on some hardware facility (e.g., a test-and-set instruction), the other two requirements are fulfilled by features already present in applicative languages. Data protection may be obtained through the

Multiprocess Lateralisation in Dyslexia
Laterality: Asymmetries of Body, Brain and Cognition, 2003Previous studies of behavioural asymmetries in dyslexia have emphasised verbal measures, and have not generally supported differences in functional asymmetry between dyslexic and normal readers. Here a multiprocess approach is taken, employing a sample of adult dyslexic readers.

Multiprocessing memory subsystem
Microprocessors and Microsystems, 1987Abstract This paper presents a central memory subsystem for a tightly coupled multimicroprocessor system. The design supports high-speed single-cycle and burst-mode data transfers. It supports a high level of data integrity through autonomous retries upon error detection, and provides a high level of test support.

A multiprocessing system for the TMS32020
Microprocessing and Microprogramming, 1988Abstract In this paper it is presented a novel two-processor architecture for the TMS32020 which takes full advantage of the timing particularities of this microprocessor. In contrast to other purposed multiprocessing configurations where the processors share a common block of memory whose access requires one of the processors to be halted, our ...

Binary Search in a Multiprocessing Environment
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1983In this paper we consider variations on the binary search algorithm when placed in the context of a multiprocessing environment. Several organizations are investigated covering the spectrum from total independence (or free competition for access to common resources) to cooperation as in SIMD architectures.

Homogeneous multiprocessing for the masses
2nd Workshop onEmbedded Systems for Real-Time Multimedia, 2004. ESTImedia 2004., 2004Summary form only given. Processor architectures have reached a point where it is getting increasingly hard to improve their performance without resorting to complex and exotic measures. Polack observed in 2000 that Intel processors had been "on the wrong side of a square law" for almost a decade.

Chip-multiprocessing and Beyond
The Twelfth International Symposium on High-Performance Computer Architecture, 2006., 2006Summary form only given. At a point in time when it is harder to harvest more instruction-level parallelism and to push the clock frequency to higher levels, industry has opted for integrating multiple processor cores on a chip. It is an attractive way of reducing the verification time by simply replicating moderately complex cores on a chip, but it ...
