A survey of IP and multiprotocol label switching fast reroute schemes

Computer Networks, 2007
One of the desirable features of any network is its ability to keep services running despite a link or node failure. This ability is usually referred to as network resilience and has become a key demand from service providers. Resilient networks recover from a failure by repairing themselves automatically by diverting traffic from the failed part of ...

Traffic engineering with multiprotocol label switching

E-Tech 2004, 2004
This paper discusses traffic engineering with multiprotocol label switching in an Internet service provider's network. First traffic engineering is introduced. Then problems with traditional router cores and IP overlay networks are discussed. Finally a strategy for traffic engineering utilizing multiprotocol label switching is discussed.

IETF Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Architecture

1998 1st IEEE International Conference on ATM. ICATM'98, 2002
This paper presents the concepts of the multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) technology currently under standardisation by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). MPLS can be used for transport of any level 3 protocol over any level 2 technology so that one of its applications is integrated transport of IP over ATM for next-generation Internet and ...

Generalized multiprotocol label switching: an overview of routing and management enhancements

IEEE Communications Magazine, 2001
Generalized multiprotocol label switching, also referred to as multiprotocol lambda switching, supports not only devices that perform packet switching, but also those that perform switching in the time, wavelength, and space domains. The development of GMPLS requires modifications to current signaling and routing protocols.

Packet routing and information distribution in Multiprotocol Label Switching

2013 8TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ADVANCED TOPICS IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING (ATEE), 2013
MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) is one of the possible methods used to create a data circuit switching behavior even if the underlying telecommunication network is a routed/switched packet network. If inside the network there is a path hierarchy, the common approach is to transmit the entire label stack, using one label for each path in the ...

Network-on-Chip Quality-of-Service through MultiProtocol Label Switching

2006 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2006
Providing quality-of-service (QoS) in networks-on-chip (NoCs) is an important consideration for the complex multiprocessor chips of the future. In this paper, we discuss the difficulties encountered in addressing these requirements. Then, we propose a promising solution to this problem that is based on applying the well-known MPLS technology of large ...

Virtual Private Network Implementation Over Multiprotocol Label Switching

2005 Student Conference on Engineering Sciences and Technology, 2005
This paper discusses virtual private network (VPN) over multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) in a service provider's network. MPLS VPN has recently been receiving much attention from industries and standards bodies as it enables service providers to provide IP-services with key benefits like traffic engineering, quality of service and optimal routing ...

The IETF Multiprotocol Label Switching Standard: The MPLS Transport Profile Case

IEEE Internet Computing, 2008
Multiprocol label switching (MPLS) is a technology for traffic engineering for and the optimization of IP networks. It's also an enabling technology for building applications on top of IP networks. The IETF has standardized the MPLS protocol suite, as well as technologies - such as virtual private networks and pseudowires - that build on it.

A routing algorithm with precomputation for Multiprotocol Label Switching Traffic Engineering

European Transactions on Telecommunications, 2011
The Label Switch Path routing algorithm in Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) has become an important topic in Traffic Engineering. This paper presents a new routing scheme with precomputation, called the Least Maximum Flow Categories Routing Algorithm.
