Food Consumption and Emotions at a Salad Lunch Buffet in a Multisensory Environment

open access: yesFoods, 2020
The food experience is multisensory and multisensory external stimuli may affect food choice and emotions. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of a multisensory eating environment on food choice, intake and the emotional states of the ...

Evidence for training-induced plasticity in multisensory brain structures: an MEG study. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Multisensory learning and resulting neural brain plasticity have recently become a topic of renewed interest in human cognitive neuroscience. Music notation reading is an ideal stimulus to study multisensory learning, as it allows studying the ...

Schizotypal personality traits and multisensory integration: An investigation using the McGurk effect

open access: yesActa Psychologica, 2021
Multisensory integration, the process by which sensory information from different sensory modalities are bound together, is hypothesized to contribute to perceptual symptomatology in schizophrenia, in whom multisensory integration differences have been ...

A Central Somatic Transmission Mediates Proprioceptive Facilitation of Muscle Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zhang et al. uncover a novel central mechanism for persistent muscle pain, in which TRPA1 sensitization in MeV proprioceptive neurons enhances somatic secretion. This, in turn, disinhibits descending pain control from neighboring noradrenergic locus coeruleus neurons via local GABAergic circuits, thereby promoting inflammatory muscle pain.

Event-Related Potentials Reflect Speech-Relevant Somatosensory-Auditory Interactions

open access: yesi-Perception, 2011
An interaction between orofacial somatosensation and the perception of speech was demonstrated in recent psychophysical studies (Ito et al. 2009; Ito and Ostry 2009).

An Experimenter's Influence on Motor Enhancements: The Effects of Letter Congruency and Sensory Switch-Costs on Multisensory Integration

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2020
Multisensory integration can alter information processing, and previous research has shown that such processes are modulated by sensory switch costs and prior experience (e.g., semantic or letter congruence).

Long‐Tea‐CLIP: An Expert‐Level Multimodal AI Framework for Fine‐Grained Green Tea Grading Across Five Sensory Dimensions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Long‐Tea‐CLIP (Contrastive Language‐Image Pre‐training) presents a multimodal AI framework that integrates visual, metabolomic, and sensory knowledge to grade green tea across appearance, soup color, aroma, taste, and infused leaf. By combining expert‐guided modeling with CLIP‐supervised learning, the system delivers fine‐grained quality evaluation and

Differential effects of top-down crossmodal attention on subjective timing of semantic and syntactic violations

open access: yesScientific Reports
Prior knowledge violations about the world’s consistency can distort subjective time perception. Scenes containing contextually irrelevant objects (i.e., semantic violations) are typically underestimated in duration (i.e., perceived shorter), whereas ...

Multisensory Gains in Simple Detection Predict Global Cognition in Schoolchildren

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
The capacity to integrate information from different senses is central for coherent perception across the lifespan from infancy onwards. Later in life, multisensory processes are related to cognitive functions, such as speech or social communication ...
