Research-Creation and More-Than-Human Collaboration

open access: yesImaginations: Journal of Cross-Cultural Media Studies
This is a set of guiding principles for more-than-human collaboration in research-creation. As slippery terms with unclear boundaries, we must form practical and theoretical protocols to navigate multispecies activities that benefit the emerging ...

Field test of assumptions for using line transect distance sampling on rock ptarmigan

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Reliable population estimates are essential for the management of harvested species. Line transect distance sampling using pointing dogs is an established survey method for willow ptarmigan and has also been proposed for the monitoring of rock ptarmigan.

An Experimental Analysis of a Points-Based System for Managing Multispecies Fisheries [PDF]

open access: yes
An industry group has proposed a novel system for managing the Northeast Multispecies Fishery. Each harvester would be endowed with a budget of points, and each species would have a “point price,†or number of points that must be paid out of his ...

Are human‐altered landscapes reshaping carnivore niche spaces in the Trans‐Himalaya?

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Understanding carnivore interactions under growing human pressures is crucial for conservation. We examined spatial and temporal niche structuring among snow leopards Panthera uncia, Himalayan wolves Canis lupus chanco, and red foxes Vulpes vulpes; while also incorporating free‐ranging dogs Canis lupus familiaris as a human‐subsidized mesopredator ...

Periodontal microbiology and microbial etiology of periodontal diseases: Historical concepts and contemporary perspectives

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract This narrative review summarizes the collective knowledge on periodontal microbiology, through a historical timeline that highlights the European contribution in the global field. The etiological concepts on periodontal disease culminate to the ecological plaque hypothesis and its dysbiosis‐centered interpretation.

Architectures of syntopia: An interdisciplinary speculative model for constructions with insect-infested wood

open access: yesTATuP – Zeitschrift für Technikfolgenabschätzung in Theorie und Praxis
Based on a case study in Franconia, Germany, where beetle infestation of spruce trees is high, we present an interdisciplinary approach from materials science, cultural theory, and computational design to develop architectures for syntopic living.

Multispecies Design.

open access: yes, 2015
The devastating effects that unsustainable design practices have on the natural world and other species with whom we share this planet have gained widespread awareness and are the driving force behind attempts to develop more sustainable design approaches.

The ecology of attraction: Fruit traits and frugivore diversity in neotropical Piper

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Fruit traits can benefit plant reproduction by enhancing seed dispersal by mutualistic frugivores (e.g. seed dispersal syndromes), but identifying the role of specific fruit traits in mediating frugivory is challenging because these traits can serve multiple functions ...

Social network dynamics under experimental manipulations of predation risk and food abundance in wild rock hyraxes

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study combines replicated experimental manipulation, social network analysis, network permutations and meta‐analysis to disentangle active from spatially‐induced changes in animal network structure in the wild. It reveals that short‐term environmental changes primarily alter space use, with limited effects on social structure.
