CLINICAL MUMPS VACCINE EFFICACY

American Journal of Epidemiology, 1985
From February 5 through April 23, 1982, 110 cases of mumps were reported among 357 students in a middle school in Ashtabula County, Ohio, an overall attack rate of 31%. Vaccine efficacy was calculated using a variety of case definitions, case surveillance systems, and vaccination-status ascertainment methods to evaluate their effects on the estimated ...

Laboratory Tests of Mumps Vaccines

Biologicals, 1997
The action of live attenuated vaccines against mumps is poorly understood although their clinical efficacy is beyond doubt. The attenuated character of the vaccine is assured by consistency of production related to clinical trials, and limited studies of vaccine seeds in primates.

Current Status of Mumps and Mumps Vaccine in the United States

Pediatrics, 1978
Reported mumps in the United States has declined to all-time low levels following the increasingly widespread use of mumps-virus vaccine. Mumps vaccine has proven safe and effective. Its incorporation into combined live-virus vaccines, especially measles-mumps-rubella, has made mumps vaccination a practical and economically feasible component of ...

MUMPS VACCINE AND NERVE DEAFNESS

Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1972
To the Editor.—I recently examined a boy who was found to have unilateral nerve deafness on a routine screening examination at school. An evaluation at a speech and hearing center disclosed a unilateral nerve deafness. The cause was not clear. This case was particularly interesting because one year previously, I had examined the boy for his school ...

Antibody responses to mumps virus proteins in natural mumps infection and after vaccination with live and inactivated mumps virus vaccines

Journal of Medical Virology, 1984
AbstractPaired sera from 20 patients with acute mumps infection, 16 from persons vaccinated with live attenuated mumps virus vaccine, and 12 from persons vaccinated with formalin‐inactivated virus vaccine were studied for mumps antibodies by single radial hemolysis (SRH), hemagglutination inhibition (HI), and by enzyme immunoassays (EIA) specific for ...

Mumps Vaccine: Possible Reaction

Pediatrics, 1969
The following is a report of a reaction to the mumps vaccine, which has not been described before to the best of my knowledge. The patient, a healthy 12-year-old male, was given mumps vaccine (MUMPSVAX, Merck Sharp and Dohme) on January 9, 1969. Four days later he developed the following symptoms: dizziness, vomiting, extreme restlessness, and insomnia.

Measles–Mumps–Rubella Vaccine

2017
The measles–mumps–rubella (MMR) vaccine is currently the exclusive tool for the prevention of measles, mumps, and rubella in Europe. The description below of single measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines is given for historical reasons and for the characterization of their properties as components of the MMR vaccine.

Vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella in children

2003
Public debate over the safety of the trivalent measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and the resultant drop in vaccination rates in several countries, persists despite its almost universal use and accepted effectiveness. We carried out a systematic review to assess the evidence of effectiveness and unintended effects associated with MMR.We searched ...
