[Mumps epidemic in vaccinated children in West Switzerland]

open access: yes, 1997
Since 1991, 6 years after the recommendation of universal childhood vaccination against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR triple vaccine), Switzerland is confronted with a large number of mumps cases affecting both vaccinated and unvaccinated children. Up

Biomolecular characterization of mumps virus genotypes with varying neurovirulence

open access: yes, 2002
Mumps virus is an RNA virus, which belongs to the Rubula virus genus of the family Paramyxoviridae. Mumps is a common childhood infection. Classically, mumps infection presents as parotitis although it is frequently asymptomatic in young children ...

Structural Polypeptides of Mumps Virus

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1978
The structural polypeptides of egg grown mumps virus were analysed by SDS-polyacrylamide-slab-gel electrophoresis. Mumps virions contained eight major polypeptides with mol. wt. of 75, 73, 71, 61, 47, 44, 42 and 40 X 10(3). The 75 K and 61 K polypeptides were glycosylated.

Non-mumps parotitis associated with influenza A/H3N2: A case series from Southern Italy during the 2024–2025 influenza season

open access: yesJournal of Infection and Public Health
Parotitis, commonly associated with the mumps virus, can also result from other viral infections. We report a case series of 21 children and preadolescents presenting with mumps-like parotitis in Southern Italy between January and February 2025, all of ...

Intracellular nucleocapsid RNA of mumps virus

open access: yes, 1982
Intracellular nucleocapsids, virtually free of host proteins and nucleic acids, were purified from cells acutely infected with several strains of mumps virus.

Mumps Virus Decreases Testosterone Production and Gamma Interferon-Induced Protein 10 Secretion by Human Leydig Cells

open access: yes, 2003
International audienceABSTRACT Mumps virus is responsible for sterility. Here, we show that the mumps virus infects Leydig cells in vitro and totally inhibits testosterone secretion and that ribavirin in mumps virus-infected Leydig cell cultures ...
