Conceptual Design of a Target and Capture Channel for a Muon Collider

IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity
The “target and capture channel” is one of the crucial systems in a Muon Collider, whose function is to create an intense muon beam from the decay of the pions generated by a multi-MW proton beam impinging on a particle-producing target. To guarantee the

Conceptual Design of the Capture Superconducting Solenoid for Experimental Muon Source

IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity, 2020
The experimental muon source (EMuS) project foreseen for muon science and neutrino physics is utilizing a superconducting solenoid for muon and pion capture, and is proposed at the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS).

Measurements of Pion and Muon Nuclear Capture at Rest on Argon in the LArIAT Experiment.

Physical Review Letters
We report the measurement of the final-state products of negative pion and muon nuclear capture at rest on argon by the LArIAT experiment at the Fermilab Test Beam Facility.

Nuclear Muon Capture [PDF]

open access: possible, 1976
We do not attempt in these two lectures to develop a coherent formalism of nuclear muon-capture, nor do we drive for completeness in the description of what the study of these processes may teach us about the basic interaction or the nuclear structure. The formalism may be consulted in ref. 1 (impulse approximation) or ref.

Nuclear muon capture

Nuclear Physics A, 1977
This report attempts to survey our present knowledge of the nuclear muon capture reactions. Starting from the formation of the muonic atom, various phenomena, having a bearing on the nuclear capture, are reviewed. The nuclear reactions are then studied from two angles — to learn about the basic muon-nucleon weak interaction process, and to obtain new ...

Muon capture in 3He

Nuclear Physics A, 1975
Abstract The partial capture rates for μ − + 3 He → 3 H + ν, nd + ν and nnp + ν are calculated. The predictions of the impulse approximation and the elementary particle method for the 3 Hν channel are compared.

Muon Capture on Carbon

Physical Review, 1963
To check the predictions of a universal Fermi interaction, negative muons were brought to rest in a 1\textonehalf{}-in. filament scintillator chamber and the rate for the reaction ${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}+{\mathrm{C}}^{12}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\mathrm{B}}^{12}+\ensuremath{\nu}$ was measured.

Neutrons from Muon-Catalyzed Fusion and Muon-Capture Processes in an Ultradense Hydrogen H(0) Generator

, 2018
A generator for ultradense hydrogen H(0) also generates kaons, pions, and muons both spontaneously and after laser-pulse induction. The negative muons formed can be used to generate the well-studied muon-catalyzed nuclear fusion D + D process in ...

Muon capture by 14N

Nuclear Physics A, 1973
Abstract Excitation and decay of the giant resonance of 14 C in muon capture by 14 N are considered. A characteristic feature of this process is the large yield of two neutrons and the low yield of charged particles. The allowed transitions are included in the calculation and lead to noticeable neutron emission.

Radiative muon capture

Physical Review C, 1980
It is shown by relating the transition amplitude of radiative muon capture to that of radiative pion capture, that the transition amplitude of radiative muon capture proposed recently by Hwang and Primakoff differs from the others mainly by Low's counter terms.
