MuSun: muon capture on the deuteron

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
The goal of the MuSun experiment at PSI is to measure the rate of muon capture on the deuteron with a precision of 1.5%. This rate will be used to fix the low-energy constant that describes the two-nucleon weak axial current in Chiral perturbation theory.

Muon capture on the deuteron and 3He

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
We plan to investigate the role of meson exchange currents in the description of the µ− + d → νµ + n + n and µ− + 3He → νµ + 3H reactions. They both are treated as the decay of the corresponding muonic atoms, with the muon initially on the lowest K shell.

Measurements of Pion and Muon Nuclear Capture at Rest on Argon in the LArIAT Experiment [PDF]

open access: greenPhysical Review Letters
We report the measurement of the final-state products of negative pion and muon nuclear capture at rest on argon by the LArIAT experiment at the Fermilab Test Beam Facility.

Muon spectroscopy of a 12-phosphatetraphene with extremely efficient radical trapping properties [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
This paper describes muon spin spectroscopy studies of 12-phosphatetraphene stabilized by a peri-trifluoromethyl group and a meso-aryl substituent. Even though the prepared solution in tetrahydrofuran (THF) was quite dilute (0.060 M) for transverse-field

Effective-field-theory predictions of the muon-deuteron capture rate [PDF]

open access: greenPhysical Review C, 2018
We quantify the theoretical uncertainties of chiral effective-field-theory predictions of the muon-deuteron capture rate. Theoretical error estimates of this low-energy process are important for a reliable interpretation of forthcoming experimental ...

Optimal ratio or historical convention: the use of methanol–ethanol mixtures as pressure‐transmitting mediums [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, Volume 58, Issue 6, Page 1967-1977, December 2025.
In this combined computational and experimental study, we demonstrate that, despite its widespread use, a methanol–ethanol ratio of 4:1 is not optimal for use as a pressure‐transmitting medium. Consistent with previous reports, we confirm that ethanol primarily serves to delay crystallization.

Muon capture on the deuteron and the neutron-neutron scattering length [PDF]

open access: bronze, 2014
We study the capture rate in the doublet hyperfine initial state for the muon capture reaction $\mu^- + \,^2{\rm H} \rightarrow \nu_\mu + n + n$ ($\Gamma^D$) and the total capture rate for the reaction $ \mu^- + \,^3{\rm He} \rightarrow \nu_\mu + \,^3 ...

Development of a non-destructive depth-selective quantification method for sub-percent carbon contents in steel using negative muon lifetime analysis [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
The amount of C in steel, which is critical in determining its properties, is strongly influenced by steel production technology. We propose a novel method of quantifying the bulk C content in steel non-destructively using muons.

Future facilities at PSI, the High-Intensity Muon Beams (HIMB) project [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2023
Currently, PSI delivers the most intense continuous muon beam in the world with up to a few 108 µ+/s. The High-Intensity Muon Beams (HIMB) project is developing a new target station and muon beamlines able to deliver 1010 µ+/s, with a huge impact for low-
