Distribution of temperature coefficient density for muons in the atmosphere

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics, 2017
To date, several dozens of new muon detectors have been built. When studying cosmic-ray intensity variations with these detectors, located deep in the atmosphere, it is necessary to calculate all characteristics, including the distribution of temperature

Shore Shadow Effect in Baikal

open access: yesUniverse, 2022
The measurement of the individual charged particles especially muons in an extended air shower (EAS) resulting from primary cosmic rays provides important distinguishing parameters to identify the chemical composition of the cosmic primary particles. For

CMS reconstruction improvement for the muon tracking by the RPC chambers

open access: yes, 2012
The contribution of Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) to muon reconstruction in CMS has been studied on a sample of muons collected in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV at the LHC in 2011.

Receiving vectors of muon telescope of cosmic ray station Novosibirsk

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics, 2016
The method of receiving vectors allows us to determine cosmic ray anisotropy at every moment of time. Also, the method makes it possible to study fast anisotropy fluctuations related to the interplanetary medium dynamics.

6D Muon Ionization Cooling with an Inverse Cyclotron

open access: yes, 2005
A large admittance sector cyclotron filled with LiH wedges surrounded by helium or hydrogen gas is explored. Muons are cooled as they spiral adiabatically into a central swarm. As momentum approaches zero, the momentum spread also approaches zero.

Muon Cooling: Longitudinal Compression [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2014
A 10 MeV/c $ ^+$ beam was stopped in helium gas of a few mbar in a magnetic field of 5 T. The muon 'swarm' has been efficiently compressed from a length of 16 cm down to a few mm along the magnetic field axis (longitudinal compression) using electrostatic fields. The simulation reproduces the low energy interactions of slow muons in helium gas.

Investigating Drivers of Tiger Bone Glue Consumption in Vietnam 调查越南虎骨胶消费的驱动因素 Điều Tra Nguyên Nhân Dẫn Đến Tình Trạng Tiêu Thụ Cao Hổ Cốt Tại Việt Nam

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, EarlyView.
We found the estimated use of tiger bone glue within the last 12 months to be 6.9%. We found a stated motivation of taking TBG to improve health, and by the suggestion of one's social group. We suggest reducing the acceptability of TBG as medicine and encouraging non‐animal‐based medicinal alternatives.

Muons in air showers at the Pierre Auger Observatory: Measurement of atmospheric production depth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The surface detector array of the Pierre Auger Observatory provides information about the longitudinal development of the muonic component of extensive air showers. Using the timing information from the flash analog-to-digital converter traces of surface

μPPET: Investigating the Muon Puzzle with J-PET Detectors

open access: yesUniverse
The μPPET [mu(μ)on Probe with J-PET] project aims to investigate the “Muon Puzzle” seen in cosmic ray air showers. This puzzle arises from the observation of a significantly larger number of muons on Earth’s surface than that predicted by the current ...

A parameterisation of single and multiple muons in the deep water or ice

open access: yes, 2005
Atmospheric muons play an important role in underwater/ice neutrino detectors. In this paper, a parameterisation of the flux of single and multiple muon events, their lateral distribution and of their energy spectrum is presented.
