Comparative Gonad Morphology and Sexuality of the Muraenidae (Pisces, Teleostei)
Copeia, 1992The study of gonads of more than 100 specimens of eels belonging to 28 species of the family Muraenidae (Teleostei, Pisces) revealed that, although they are uniform in their gross morphology, they are divisible into groups according to cytology and sexuality.

Blood cellular components in wild caught Muraena helena (Muraenidae)
2011Wild caught moray eels, Muraena helena L. 1758, were collected in Adriatic Sea near Dubrovnik, Croatia. Blood cells were evaluated by Natt-Hericks and MGG stain. Mean haematocrit was 23.22 ± 3.13. RBC count was 4.007 ± 1.60 x 1011/L. Thrombocytes were present in four forms. Average WBC count was 3.37% of the total cell count.
