Investigating the impacts of biochar on water fluxes in a rice experiment in the dry corridor of Central America, Costa Rica

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 36, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
How does biochar impact soil water storage? After adding biochar to an upland rice field in Costa Rica, we observed a shift in the soil water retention curves, indicating that rice plants had 2%–7% more water available. The isotopic composition of plant water did not vary with biochar, indicating rice plants likely consumed similar water.

FLOWERING REPRESSOR AAA+ ATPase 1 is a novel regulator of perennial flowering in Arabis alpina

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 236, Issue 2, Page 729-744, October 2022., 2022
Summary Arabis alpina is a polycarpic perennial, in which PERPETUAL FLOWERING1 (PEP1) regulates flowering and perennial traits in a vernalization‐dependent manner. Mutagenesis screens of the pep1 mutant established the role of other flowering time regulators in PEP1‐parallel pathways.
