Hydrogen sulfide promotes lateral root formation in peach through persulfidation of SnRK1α kinase

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 10, Page 4395-4411, October 2025.
Summary Root development is crucial for the growth and yield of horticultural crops. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), an important gasotransmitter, has been shown to regulate lateral root (LR) formation in plants, including peach (Prunus persica). However, its specific regulatory mechanism remains largely unclear.

Characteristics and Molecular Mechanism of Slow Vegetative Growth in Hexaploid Transgenic Poplar 741 With an Insect‐Resistance Gene

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 10, Page 4552-4567, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Polyploid plants frequently exhibit altered vegetative growth, yet the molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study reveals that hexaploidisation of triploid insect‐resistant poplar 741‐line Pb29 significantly reduces growth rate, leaf area, photosynthetic capacity and organic matter accumulation.

Cysteine Signalling in Plant Pathogen Response

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 10, Page 7107-7122, October 2025.
ABSTRACT The amino acid cysteine is the precursor for a wide range of sulfur‐containing functional molecules in plants, including enzyme cofactors and defence compounds. Due to its redox active thiol group cysteine is highly reactive. Synthesis and degradation pathways are present in several subcellular compartments to adjust the intracellular cysteine

Rice Zinc‐Finger Homeodomain 1 (OsZHD1) Finetunes Flowering Time by Modulating the Photoperiodic Response

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 10, Page 7392-7407, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Plants exhibit photoperiod sensitivity (PS), which influences flowering time in response to changes in daylength, allowing cereal crops to optimise seed production at different latitudes. Rice is a facultative short‐day (SD) plant, flowering early under SD and late under long‐day (LD) conditions.

Overexpression of jojoba wax ester synthase in poplar increases foliar lipid accumulation, alters stomatal conductance, and increases water use efficiency

open access: yesPlant Biology, Volume 27, Issue 6, Page 1006-1021, October 2025.
Overexpression of jojoba wax ester synthase in poplar causes accumulation of intracellular lipids in leaves and reduced stomatal conductance with higher water‐use efficiencies in the transgenic lines. Abstract Poplars are important fast‐growing, water‐spending biomass tree crops.
