Integrative systematics and evolutionary history of Berylmys bowersi (Mammalia, Rodentia, Muridae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2023
The Bower's Berylmys (Berylmys bowersi) is one of the largest rodent species with a wide distribution range in southern China and the Indochinese Peninsula. The taxonomy and evolutionary history of the B. bowersi is still controversial and confusing.

Phylogeny and biogeography of African Murinae based on mitochondrial and nuclear gene sequences, with a new tribal classification of the subfamily

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2008
Background Within the subfamily Murinae, African murines represent 25% of species biodiversity, making this group ideal for detailed studies of the patterns and timing of diversification of the African endemic fauna and its relationships with Asia.

Two new species of Halmaheramys (Murinae: Rattini) from archaeological deposits on Morotai Island, North Moluccas, Indonesia

open access: yesRecords of the Australian Museum, 2023
Two new species of murine rodents (Halmaheramys funderus sp. nov. and H. bellwoodi sp. nov.) are described from remains in an archaeological site on Morotai Island in North Maluku (Maluku Utara) Province of Indonesia.

Transition-Transversion Bias at the CYTB Gene Level in the Order Cypriniformes (Actinopterygii) as Evidence for the Influence of Metabolic Rate on Molecular Evolutionary Rate. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Families and subfamilies inhabiting temperate regions exhibit increasing transition frequencies and decreasing transversion frequencies with increasing genetic divergence, resulting in a pronounced transition–transversion bias. In contrast, tropical taxa show the opposite pattern, with elevated transversion frequencies and a markedly weaker bias.

A new early Pliocene murine rodent from the Iberian Peninsula and its biostratigraphic implications [PDF]

open access: yesActa Palaeontologica Polonica, 2020
In the last years, a murine identified as Paraethomys aff. abaigari has been repeatedly recognized in several early Pliocene localities of the Iberian Peninsula.

Tempo and Mode: Evidence on a Protracted Split From a Dense Fossil Record

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2021
Fossil records generally inform paleobiologists about extinct taxa and rates of evolution measured at the scale of millions of years. Good records that are densely sampled through time can reveal species level details such as longevity in local sections.

Review of Moluccan Rattus (Rodentia: Muridae) with description of four new species

open access: yesRecords of the Australian Museum, 2023
Four new species of Rattus are described from the Moluccan islands (Maluku) of Indonesia: Rattus taliabuensis and R. feileri, both from the island of Taliabu, and R. halmaheraensis and R.

Dietary ecology of Murinae (Muridae, Rodentia): a geometric morphometric approach. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Murine rodents represent a highly diverse group, which displays great ecological versatility. In the present paper we analyse the relationship between dental morphology, on one hand, using geometric morphometrics based upon the outline of first upper ...

Geologically calibrated mammalian tree and its correlation with global events, including the emergence of humans

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 12, December 2023., 2023
A robust minimum age tree shows post K–Pg Placentalia radiation, and subsequent extensive radiation connected to exponentially increased base substitution (mutation) rate including generation of Homo sapiens. This Neogene radiation may have been triggered by expansion of C4 grasses that decreased atmospheric CO2, resulting in global cooling and ...

Molecular phylogeny and taxonomy of the genus Vernaya (Mammalia: Rodentia: Muridae) with the description of two new species

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 11, November 2023., 2023
The climbing mouse (genus Vernaya) is one of the least studied small mammals. This manuscript integrates molecular and morphological approaches to study the phylogeny and taxonomy of the genus. They described two new species and recognized Vernaya foramena as a valid species.
