On the importance of including both sexes in animal studies – insights from home‐cage monitoring
ABSTRACT A review of behavioural studies using home‐cage monitoring (HCM) systems revealed that over 61% of studies used only male subjects, with only 24% including both sexes, despite evidence of substantial behavioural differences between male and female animals. This bias could influence the outcomes of biomedical research.

Animal empathy reconsidered: a multidimensional profile account
ABSTRACT Empathy is the glue that holds societies together and yet several fundamental questions about empathy persist. What is empathy (the definitional question)? Is it uniquely human and, if not, which nonhuman animals possess empathy (the distribution question)? Which type or quality of empathy is realized in different species (the quality question)

ABSTRACT The environmental conditions organisms experience during early development can have powerful and sustained effects on morphology, physiology, behaviour, and performance. Such developmental effects can influence reproductive success, survival, and life‐history strategies and can be transmitted across generations (i.e.

Anatomy of the Soft Palate and Its Role in Upper Airway Function: A Narrative Review
ABSTRACT The soft palate is a complex anatomical structure, located at the posterior aspect of the oral and nasal cavities, able to dynamically create valve closure of the nasal and the oral cavities. Its precise movement is critical for speech, swallowing, and respiration. Despite its functional importance, detailed characterization of its constituent

Jaw‐specific stem cell dynamics are associated with distinct enamel architecture in mouse incisors
Abstract Background The continuously growing mouse incisor serves as a model for stem cell‐driven tooth renewal. Although mice possess maxillary and mandibular incisors, most studies have focused on the mandible. Potential differences in structure and renewal between these serially homologous organs remain insufficiently characterized.

A proteomic investigation of forebrain regeneration in the leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius)
Our investigation reveals ontogenetic, injury‐ and regeneration‐associated proteomic changes in the leopard gecko forebrain. Abstract Background The ability to replace lost or damaged neurons following an injury is termed reactive neurogenesis. Although reactive neurogenesis has been reported in several lizard species, the molecular mechanisms ...

Systemic aging fuels heart failure: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic avenues
Abstract Systemic aging influences various physiological processes and contributes to structural and functional decline in cardiac tissue. These alterations include an increased incidence of left ventricular hypertrophy, a decline in left ventricular diastolic function, left atrial dilation, atrial fibrillation, myocardial fibrosis and cardiac ...
