Experimental Parasitism of Synanthropic Flies (Musca domestica, Lucilia sericata, and Sarcophaga heamorrhoidalis) by Parasitoid Wasps (Nasonia vitripennis, Spalangia nigroaenea, and Pachycrepoideus vindemmiae)

open access: yesJournal of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, 2019
Background and purpose: One of the most popular methods to control the synanthropic flies is using parasitoid wasps. The aim of this study was to estimate the experimental parasitism rates of pupae of Musca domestica, Lucilia sericata, and Sarcophaga ...

Full‐length coding sequence analysis of the voltage‐gated sodium channel and acetylcholinesterase genes reveals target‐site mutations and acetylcholinesterase gene duplication in housefly (Musca domestica) populations in Japanese livestock barns

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
We simultaneously analysed insecticide resistance mutations in VGSC and AChE using NGS and hybridization probe capture in houseflies collected from livestock facilities for the first time. Resistance mutations in both VGSC and AChE were detected in most wild populations, suggesting widespread distribution of resistance genes.

Comparative efficacy and studies of mode of action of minerals from diatoms against three species of filth flies

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 478-488, September 2026.
Mortality for diatomaceous earth was observed as early as 2 h after exposure with 50% and 90% mortality at 3.5 and 4.6 h (LT50 and LT90, respectively) for Musca domestica. The LT50 and LT90 increased when the size of the fly species increased (M. domestica to Cochliomyia macellaria to Sarcophaga bullata) and increased for all three from 50 to 70 ...

Plant-Based Bioinsecticide for Controlling Houseflies (Musca domestica): Efficacy of Leaf Extracts

open access: yesJournal of Public Health and Pharmacy
Introduction: One of the vectors of disease spread is flies. House flies (Musca domestica) are often found alive in almost all types of environments. Several previous studies have shown that pandanus leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius), basil leaves (Ocimum

Conspecific cueing or cooperative feeding?—Foraging stable flies are visually attracted to conspecific flies

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 512-529, September 2026.
In two‐choice laboratory bioassays, food‐deprived and CO2‐stimulated stable flies were offered paired landing platforms that were baited or not (control) with conspecific flies. The presence of conspecifics prompted the attraction and landing of foraging stable flies.

Emission globules in Musca [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1982
A group of Bok globules in Musca exhibit weak emission because of their proximity to Alpha Mus. The association of star and nebulae makes possible an unusually good distance determination for the globules. A faint H-alpha emission star coincides with one of the globules.
