Remarks on Muscle Contraction Mechanism [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2008
Muscle contraction mechanism is discussed by reforming the model described in an article by Mitsui (Adv. Biophys. 1999, 36, 107-158). A simple thermodynamic relationship is presented, which indicates that there is an inconsistency in the power stroke model or the swinging lever model. To avoid this difficulty, a new model is proposed.

Joule‐Assisted Nanotherapeutic Urethral Stent (JANUS) for Spatiotemporal Theragenerative Treatment of Urethral Strictures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Joule‐assisted nanotherapeutic urethral stent harnesses a smart, biodegradable magnesium stent to orchestrate spatiotemporal theragenerative therapy for urethral strictures. Magnetically induced Joule heating enables on‐demand drug release and bacterial ablation, while simultaneously guiding urothelial regeneration.

Stable isotope-labeled carnitine reveals its rapid transport into muscle cells and acetylation during contraction

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Carnitine plays multiple roles in skeletal muscle metabolism, including fatty acid transport and buffering of excess acetyl-CoA in the mitochondria. The skeletal muscle cannot synthesize carnitine; therefore, carnitine must be taken up from the blood ...

Muscle Fatigue Enhance Beta Band EMG-EMG Coupling of Antagonistic Muscles in Patients With Post-stroke Spasticity

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
There is a significant influence of muscle fatigue on the coupling of antagonistic muscles while patients with post-stroke spasticity are characterized by abnormal antagonistic muscle coactivation activities. This study was designed to verify whether the

Insights into muscle metabolic energetics: Modelling muscle-tendon mechanics and metabolic rates during walking across speeds [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Prior studies have produced models to predict metabolic rates based on experimental observations of isolated muscle contraction from various species. Such models can provide reliable predictions of metabolic rates in humans if muscle properties and control are accurately modeled.

Requirements for contractility in disordered cytoskeletal bundles

open access: yes, 2012
Actomyosin contractility is essential for biological force generation, and is well understood in highly organized structures such as striated muscle. Additionally, actomyosin bundles devoid of this organization are known to contract both in vivo and in ...

Engineering the Hierarchical Porosity of Granular Hydrogel Scaffolds Using Porous Microgels to Improve Cell Recruitment and Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
By fabricating and covalently assembling gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) porous microgels, a new class of granular hydrogel scaffolds with hierarchical porosity is developed. These scaffolds have a significantly higher void fraction than their counterparts made up of nonporous microgels, enhancing cell recruitment and tissue integration. This research may

Detecting muscle activation using ultrasound speed of sound inversion with deep learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Functional muscle imaging is essential for diagnostics of a multitude of musculoskeletal afflictions such as degenerative muscle diseases, muscle injuries, muscle atrophy, and neurological related issues such as spasticity. However, there is currently no solution, imaging or otherwise, capable of providing a map of active muscles over a large field of ...
