Muscle contraction: A mechanical perspective [PDF]
In this paper we present a purely mechanical analog of the conventional chemo-mechanical modeling of muscle contraction. We abandon the description of kinetics of the power stroke in terms of jump processes and instead resolve the continuous stochastic evolution on an appropriate energy landscape.

Under environmental changes, the expression level of neuropeptide (NP) and neuropeptide receptor (NPR) genes changes to confer context‐dependent adaptation to the model organism Drosophila melanogaster. Through finding more regulatory elements in the NPR genes in comparison with their ligands (NPs), we found that NPR‐biased transcriptional regulation ...

Model-based control of skeletal muscle using muscle-contraction models
Bioactuators using skeletal muscle are expected to be applied to medical and welfare equipment as functional materials with self-growth functions. In this regard, their contraction force must be controlled with high accuracy for the desired operation ...

Here, we introduced an intermittent electrical stimulation protocol mimicking the episodic nature of real‐life exercise in vitro by alternating low‐ and high‐frequency stimulation. In comparison with widely used continuous stimulation, it enhanced the rate of glucose and fatty acid oxidation, but not the myokine release.

Experimental research models for skeletal muscle contraction
Skeletal muscle has an important role besides its obvious function in physical movement and locomotion; namely, it maintains whole-body metabolism. Maintaining muscle mass and quality with regular exercise is closely related to quality of life and a ...

The impact of Hnrnpl deficiency on transcriptional patterns of developing muscle cells
We performed nanopore whole‐transcriptome sequencing comparing RNA from Hnrnpl‐knockdown versus control C2C12 myoblasts to investigate the contributions of Hnrnpl to muscle development. Our results indicate that Hnrnpl regulates the expression of genes involved with Notch signaling and skeletal muscle, particularly splicing patterns of specific muscle ...

ABSTRACT Objectives Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non‐invasive brain stimulation strategy with a demonstrated potential to reinforce the residual pathways after a spinal cord injury (SCI). A preclinically tested high‐frequency (15 Hz) rTMS (15 Hz rTMS) protocol was shown to induce corticospinal tract axon regeneration growth ...

ABSTRACT Background Stroke is a leading cause of long‐term disability in adults, with upper limb hemiparesis being a common impairment. Traditional training is mostly aimed at paralyzed limbs, but the effect of bilateral training is still unclear.

Long‐Term Evaluation of Givinostat in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and Natural History Comparisons
ABSTRACT Objectives This ongoing, open‐label extension study is evaluating the long‐term safety, tolerability, and efficacy of givinostat, a Class I and II histone deacetylase inhibitor, in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Methods The recruited patients completed one of two prior clinical studies (one Phase 2 and one Phase 3 [EPIDYS ...
