Spatial distribution of muscle fibers
The Anatomical Record, 1995AbstractThe analysis of Gates and Betz (1993 Anat. Rec., 236:381–389) of the spatial distribution of two different populations of muscle fibers in the lumbrical muscle of the rat is discussed. The conclusion that muscle fibers belonging to a single motor unit are distributd at random in most muscles appears to need reconsideration.

Fiber Types in Mammalian Skeletal Muscles
Physiological Reviews, 2011Mammalian skeletal muscle comprises different fiber types, whose identity is first established during embryonic development by intrinsic myogenic control mechanisms and is later modulated by neural and hormonal factors. The relative proportion of the different fiber types varies strikingly between species, and in humans shows significant variability ...

Kinetics of the Actomyosin ATPase in Muscle Fibers
Annual Review of Physiology, 1987Many characteristics expected from the cyclic ATPase mechanism of Scheme 1 are apparent in reactions measured directly in muscle fibers. ATP detaches rigor cross-bridges rapidly. Reattachment and force generation are also rapid compared to the overall cycling rate, but reversibility of many of the reactions allows significant population of detached ...
