Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Hydrogel platforms for 3D cardiac tissue engineering and fibrotic disease modelling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hydrogel‐based cardiac tissue models are advancing our understanding of heart health and disease. By incorporating electrical conductivity, aligned structures, and tunable mechanical properties, these platforms better replicate the complex environment of native heart tissue.

Histological structure of the musculus longissimus lumborum et thoracis in pigs with the same ryanodine receptor genotype (CC) in relation to carcass indicators

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2007
The aim of this study was to investigate the histological structure of the longissimus muscle in pigs in relation to carcass value indicators. A total number of 16 pigs of about 101.28 kg average live weight were used.

Electrospun fibre diameter and its effects on vascular smooth muscle cells

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 2021
Bypass grafting is a technique used in the treatment of vascular disease, which is currently the leading cause of mortality worldwide. While technology has moved forward over the years, synthetic grafts still show significantly lower rates of patency in ...

Safety and Tolerability of Givinostat: Evidence From Real‐World and Clinical Practice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The aim of our study was to establish the prevalence of adverse events in a real‐world setting in boys living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) treated with givinostat as part of an Expanded Access Program (EAP) in Italy. Methods The cohort included 90 ambulant boys, with age when treatment started between 6 and 23 years (mean ...

Early Clinical, Imaging, and Pathological Characteristics of SRPK3/TTN‐Digenic Myopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy was recently established as a skeletal muscle myopathy caused by digenic inheritance. This study characterizes the early clinical presentation of SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy in one previously reported and seven newly identified pediatric patients.

Comments on the thermodynamical background to the growth and remodelling theory applied to a model of muscle fibre contraction

open access: yesApplied and Computational Mechanics, 2010
Muscle fibre contraction is a complex thermomechanical process. The change in muscle fibre length (isotonic contraction) and tension (isometric contraction) may be regarded as muscle fibre growth (change in length) and remodelling (change in stiffness ...

Decoupling behaviour between muscle fibre and muscle-tendon unit.

open access: yes, 2013
Comparison of the velocity of the muscle fibre, the tendon-aponeurosis unit and the muscle-tendon unit from one subject on running tasks for the (A) generic and (B) SS T-A conditions and from (C) a previous experimentation with the muscle fibre velocity ...
