Smooth muscle neoplasms of the vulva masquerading as Bartholin gland duct cysts. [PDF]

open access: bronzeProc (Bayl Univ Med Cent), 2014
Smooth muscle neoplasms of the vulva can be mistaken for Bartholin duct cysts, which can lead to a delay in diagnosis. We present a case of vulvar leiomyoma and a case of leiomyosarcoma that clinically mimicked Bartholin duct cysts. Identification of leiomyosarcomas in this region is particularly important; due to the risk of recurrence, patients may ...

Molecular determination of the malignant potential of smooth muscle neoplasms [PDF]

open access: bronzeCancer, 1997
The determination of the malignant potential of smooth muscle neoplasms remains ambiguous, and yet has far reaching clinical, therapeutic, and social implications. In this pilot study, the authors examined smooth muscle isoactin gene expression by polymerase chain reaction in a variety of smooth muscle tumors.A lack of gamma-smooth muscle isoactin gene ...
