Patterning the Void: Combining L‐Systems with Archimedean Tessellations as a Perspective for Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel multi‐scale scaffold design using L‐fractals arranged in Archimedean tessellations for tissue regeneration. Despite similar porosity, tiles display vastly different tensile responses (1–100 MPa) and deformation modes. In vitro experiments with hMSCs show geometry‐dependent growth and activity. Over 55 000 tile combinations

Position statement of the Slovenian society of anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine on the use of sugammadex

open access: yesZdravniški Vestnik, 2018
We present our position statement for the use of sugammadex, a specific binder for aminosteroid muscle relaxants, in the most common clinical circumstances (in the case of an emergency intubation, when the patient cannot be ventilated or intubated; in ...

Substrate Stress Relaxation Regulates Cell‐Mediated Assembly of Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone‐based viscoelastic substrates with tunable stress relaxation reveal how matrix mechanics regulates cellular mechanosensing and cell‐mediated matrix remodelling in the stiff regime. High stress relaxation promotes assembly of fibronectin fibril‐like structures, increased nuclear localization of YAP and formation of β1 integrin‐enriched ...

Implementation of Drug‐Induced Rhabdomyolysis and Acute Kidney Injury in Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A modular Muscle–Kidney proximal tubule‐on‐a‐chip integrates 3D skeletal muscle and renal proximal tubule tissues to model drug‐induced rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury. The coculture system enables dynamic tissue interaction, functional contraction monitoring, and quantification of nephrotoxicity, revealing drug side effect‐induced metabolic ...

Mass attenuation coefficient and its photon interaction derivables of some skeletal muscle relaxants

open access: yesJournal of Radiation and Cancer Research, 2016
Context: The study of photon interactions with biological materials is essential in radiation medicine and biology, nuclear technology and space research, since radioactive sources are used.

Comparing intraoperative hemodynamics and medication use during cranial nerve monitoring with partial muscle relaxants versus without in cerebellopontine angle tumors: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesAin Shams Journal of Anesthesiology, 2023
Background There are many methods used for cranial nerve monitoring in cerebellopontine angle (CPA) tumor excision with or without muscle relaxant which may affect hemodynamics and consumption of drug doses.

Charge‐Induced Morphing Gels for Bioinspired Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel electroactive actuation mechanism that enables the gel material to generate substantial and reversible shape‐changing while preserving topological and isochoric (volumetric) equivalence. The resultant morphing behaviors can mimic the movements of muscle‐driven organelles in nature, including cilia‐like beating and ...

A Case of Combined Baclofen and Carisoprodol Withdrawal: The Hidden Dangers of Muscle Relaxants

open access: yesAnnals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases
Muscle relaxant prescriptions are on the rise for the treatment of chronic pain, although physician education about the effects of overdose, medication interactions, and withdrawal is limited.
