Unravelling the skin of the nurse shark: A morphological description of the placoid scales of Ginglymostoma cirratum

Abstract Ginglymostoma cirratum, commonly known as the nurse shark, is a nocturnally active benthic shark, often found in western and eastern Atlantic waters. Although this shark has been well explored in many biological aspects, few studies have thoroughly examined the morphology of its dermal denticles (or placoid scales).

A new Hyphessobrycon (Characiformes: Acestrorhamphidae) of the Hyphessobrycon agulha lineage of Hyphessobryconinae from the lower Aripuanã basin, Brazil, with comments about the lineage

Abstract A new species of Hyphessobrycon is described from a tributary of Rio Jatuarana, lower Rio Aripuanã basin, Rio Madeira basin, Apuí, Amazonas. The new species is part of the Hyphessobrycon agulha lineage, with the typical midlateral narrow black stripe immediately followed dorsally by an iridescent stripe.

Computed tomography reveals multiple origins of extreme caudal vertebral pneumaticity in sauropod dinosaurs

Here, we present novel CT scan data of caudal vertebrae of six Middle–Late Jurassic sauropods, representing several eusauropod lineages. We synthesise these new data with a comprehensive critical appraisal of purported external and internal evidence for caudal vertebral PSP in Sauropodomorpha.
