Bahía Engaño: a north Patagonian nursery area for the smoothhound shark Mustelus schmitti (Carcharhiniformes: Triakidae)

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2001
Mustelus schmitti (Carcharhiniformes: Triakidae) studied in the present work were caught incidentally in the shrimp fishery of the south of Bahía Engaño (Patagonia, Argentina). This bay is a shallow water, high productivity coastal area where shrimps and small fish are abundant throughout the warmer months. Young of M.

Biological and reproductive characteristics of the Patagonian smoothhoundMustelus schmitti(Chondrichthyes, Triakidae) as documented from an artisanal fishery in Uruguay

Journal of Applied Ichthyology, 2009
Summary The use of a highly selective fishing gear is the main reason for mature individual dominance in the Patagonian smoothhound (Mustelus schmitti Springer, 1939) artisanal fishery in Punta del Diablo, Uruguay. Differences in length–weight relationships (LWR) and size at 50% maturity (L50) within its distribution were also expected.

The largest to the south? Assessment of the latitudinal variation in Mustelus schmitti (Chondrichthyes: Carcharhiniforms: Triakidae), an endemic coastal shark of the Southwest Atlantic Ocean

Biological Journal of the Linnean Society
Abstract Relative growth and life history traits along latitudinal gradients have been widely examined in bony fishes, but chondrichthyans have received less attention. The present work focuses on testing whether southern distributed individuals of Mustelus schmitti sharks are larger and will mature at larger sizes than northern ...
