A mathematical model of DNA degradation: Possible role of magnetic nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
A mathematical model of genome degradation is proposed that takes into account a variable rate of mutation and increasing number of cells in a developing human organism. The model explains known properties of cancer development, in particular, a synergism between different mutagens and an increased probability of cancer in the early years of life.

The maize transposable element system Ac/Ds as a mutagen in Arabidopsis: identification of an albino mutation induced by Ds insertion.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1993
A two-component transposon system based on the Ac element of maize was used as a mutagen in Arabidopsis thaliana. Transposition of a Ds element marked with a hygromycin-resistance gene was activated from four different locations in the Arabidopsis genome.

Mutagen sensitivity: a genetic predisposition factor for cancer.

open access: yesCancer Research, 2007
Mutagen sensitivity, measured by quantifying the chromatid breaks induced by mutagens in short-term cultures of peripheral blood lymphocytes, has been used as an indirect measure of DNA repair capacity.

Synthesis, Cytotoxic Activity, Antiquorum Sensing Effect, Docking and Md Simulation of Novel 1,3‐Disubstituted 2‐Mercapto‐1H‐Benzo[D]Imidazolium Chlorides

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 39, Issue 4, April 2025.
A series of benzimidazolium chlorides and their 2‐mercapto were successfully synthesized and characterized. Cytotoxic activity assays revealed that certain synthesized compounds exhibited efficacy against cancer cell lines. To investigate the possible mechanism underlying their cytotoxic effects, the binding interactions of the three most active ...

Mutagen sensitivity has high heritability: evidence from a twin study.

open access: yesCancer Research, 2006
Despite numerous studies showing that mutagen sensitivity is a cancer predisposition factor, the heritability of mutagen sensitivity has not been clearly established.

Mitochondrial Complex I Molecular Alterations in Sapajus apella as a Human Gastric Carcinogenesis Model After MNU Exposure

open access: yesJournal of Medical Primatology, Volume 54, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction Gastric cancer (GC) remains among the top five global health problems. Therefore, comprehending the tumor energetic behavior is critical to understanding its progression. This study aimed to investigate mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) alterations in GC cancer cell lines in an animal model.

Micronucleus induction by 915 MHz Radiofrequency Radiation in Vicia faba root tips [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
The mutagenic effect of radiofrequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) is evaluated by the micronucleus (MN) test in secondary roots of Vicia faba seedlings. Root exposures were carried out with 915 MHz continuous wave (CW) radiation for 72h, at power densities of 25, 38, 50 W/m$^2$.

The human, F-actin-based cytoskeleton as a mutagen sensor

open access: yesCancer Cell International, 2017
Background Forty years ago the actin cytoskeleton was determined to be disrupted in fibroblasts from persons with DNA repair-defective, hereditary colon cancer, with no clear connection between the cytoskeleton and DNA repair defects at that time ...
