Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

Organoid Brain‐Machine‐Interface Devices for Central Nervous System Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We envision organoid brain‐machine‐interface (Organoid‐BMI) devices as new biohybrid bidirectional communication pathways to connect the human CNS and the external world for personalized CNS repair and regeneration. ABSTRACT Central nervous system (CNS) repair and regeneration suffer from tremendous clinical challenges due to current limitations in ...

Interclonal Mutually Beneficial Cooperation Mediated by TGF-β1 Enhances Invasion of Breast Cancer Cells

open access: yes, 2022
Intratumour heterogeneity is often associated with poor response to treatment and bad prognosis. In addition to genetic and epigenetic sources, phenotypic heterogeneity can also reflect plastic responses to signals from other cells. The latter can be mediated by various cell-cell interactions, from antagonistic (i.e., competition) to commensalistic or ...

A New Customizable Surfactant LLPS Strategy for Sustainable and Highly Efficient Radioactive Metal Ion Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A diluent‐free, customizable liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) platform enables highly efficient radioactive metal ion extraction and stripping. By encapsulating hydrophobic extractants into an ionic surfactant‐rich condensed phase, this LLPS system leverages synergistic electrostatic and coordination interactions.

The emergence of reciprocally beneficial cooperation [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper offers a new and robust model of the emergence and persistence of cooperation. In the model, interactions are anonymous, the population is well-mixed, and the evolutionary process selects strategies according to material payoffs.

STAID: A Self‐Refining Deep Learning Framework for Spatial Cell‐Type Deconvolution with Biologically Informed Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
STAID is a unified deep learning framework that couples iterative pseudo‐spot refinement with neural network training through a feedback loop and exploits gene co‐expression information to model higher‐order interactions, achieving accurate and robust cell‐type deconvolution in spatial transcriptomics.

Inefficient cooperation under stochastic and strategic uncertainty

open access: yes, 2022
Stochastic uncertainty can cause coordination problems that may hinder mutually beneficial cooperation. We propose a mechanism of ex-post voluntary transfers designed to circumvent these coordination problems and ask whether it can increase efficiency ...
