Non‐negative Gaussian estimation of variance components in random effects models

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract When used to estimate variance components (VCs), confidence intervals (CIs) can be truncated at zero, have a point estimate not in the quoted CI, be empty with positive probability, or be all‐inclusive. This is because they have conflicting dual roles, since they are considered to cover the parameter with a specified probability while also ...

Entanglement and quantum combinatorial designs

open access: yes, 2018
We introduce several classes of quantum combinatorial designs, namely quantum Latin squares, cubes, hypercubes and a notion of orthogonality between them. A further introduced notion, quantum orthogonal arrays, generalizes all previous classes of designs.

Revisiting the Nexus Between Trade Liberalisation and Income Inequality: The Case of Sub‐Saharan African Countries

open access: yesInternational Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines the impact of trade liberalisation on income inequality across 24 Sub‐Saharan African (SSA) countries from 2000 to 2020. Using IV‐Tobit and 2SLS models, we consistently find that greater trade openness significantly exacerbates inequality in the region. Critically, we document an inverted U‐shaped relationship between trade

On the connection between mutually unbiased bases and orthogonal Latin squares

open access: yes, 2009
We offer a piece of evidence that the problems of finding the number of mutually unbiased bases (MUB) and mutually orthogonal Latin squares (MOLS) might not be equivalent.

A Three‐Factor Product Construction for Mutually Orthogonal Latin Squares [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Designs, 2014
AbstractIt is well known that mutually orthogonal latin squares, or MOLS, admit a (Kronecker) product construction. We show that, under mild conditions, “triple products” of MOLS can result in a gain of one square. In terms of transversal designs, the technique is to use a construction of Rolf Rees twice: once to obtain a coarse resolution of the ...

THE URBANOLOGISTS COME TO TOWN: Professional Life and Work in the Urban Solutions Industry

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract This article charts the upsurge of an eclectic global community of professionals new to the field of urban policy and governance, animated by playful and celebratory attitudes towards cities and urbanization: the urbanologists. It contributes to debates in critical urban theory and critical ethnographies of technology to problematize ...

When the Fed Sneezes, What Stock Market Catches the Cold?

open access: yesInternational Finance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper identifies three indicators of monetary policy surprises—unexpected changes in the federal funds rate, forward guidance and large‐scale asset purchases—and examines their effects on international stock prices using an intraday event study approach.

Toward Employee Engagement and Development Through Internal Corporate Social Responsibility

open access: yesBusiness Strategy &Development, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates antecedents and moderators of stakeholder engagement focusing on employees as primary stakeholders. Using partial least squares structural equation modeling with a stratified sample of 369 Brazilian employees, we tested trust and commitment as direct antecedents, and transparency and communication as moderators. Results
