Mechanism of mycobacterium avium complex pathogenesis

Frontiers in Bioscience, 1998
Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) group of microorganisms are the most common opportunistic bacterial pathogens causing disseminated disease in HIV infected patients. These microorganisms are ubiquitous in nature, and are acquired by respiratory and oral routes.

Cervical lymphadenitis from Mycobacterium avium complex

BMJ Case Reports
We present an instructive case of cervical lymphadenitis in a young man without a history of HIV infection. The patient developed spontaneous left-sided neck swelling that progressed over 4 months. CT imaging demonstrated a necrotic left-sided neck mass within the cervical lymph node chain.

Mycobacterium avium complex: Advances in therapy

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 1994
Disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) is one of the most common opportunistic infections in AIDS patients and is increasingly recognized as a significant pathogen in chronic pulmonary disease in nonimmunocompromised patients. Important progress in therapy has occurred over the last several years.

Recurrent Mycobacterium avium Complex Infection

Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice, 2017
Abstract A 64-year-old white female presented with 4 years of episodic, productive cough, fevers, chills, night sweats, and weight loss. Over this period, she had documented recurrent Mycobacterium avium complex in the bronchiolar lavage and sputum despite taking antibiotics for 2 years. Result of extensive immune evaluation including genetic

Antigens of the Mycobacterium avium, Micobacterium intracellulare complex

European Journal of Epidemiology, 1991
In the past decade, the clinical significance of the Mycobacterium avium, Myobacterium intracellulare complex (MAC) has increased dramatically primarily because of the association between the MAC and the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Recent hospital reports have suggested that about one-half of AIDS patients in the United States are ...

Genetic research about Mycobacterium avium complex.

Kekkaku : [Tuberculosis], 2011
We conducted four genetic studies on the Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC). (1) M. avium genotyping: A total of 70 clinical isolates from patients with pulmonary MAC infections were typed by MATR-VNTR, IS1245-RFLP, and MIRU-VNTR analyses to compare discriminatory powers of these typing methods. To allow a comparison of discriminatory powers, the Hunter-
