Hidden Fungal Diversity of the Precious Mediterranean Red Coral Corallium rubrum

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
This study reveals diverse cultivable fungi associated with the red coral Corallium rubrum, highlighting both potentially beneficial and pathogenic species. These findings emphasize the biotechnological relevance and ecological impact of coral‐associated fungi, especially as climate change may increase disease risks.

The ribosome‐associated complex regulates cytosolic translation upon mitoprotein‐induced stress

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 11, Page 3211-3227, June 2026.
Defects in mitochondrial protein import trigger a stress response. The contribution of translation regulation to such a response is only partially understood. We demonstrate that the deletion of mitochondrial surface proteins (TOM70/TOM71) leads to defects in mitochondrial biogenesis and slow growth.

How do I publish the name of a new species of algae? A basic guide

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 749-756, June 2026.
Abstract A basic guide to the requirements of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants for the publication of a valid name of new species (and infraspecific taxa) of living algae is provided. It is intended to aid phycologists so that an accurate inventory of the world's algal diversity is achieved.

The Fungal Community of a High‐Arctic Semi‐Desert Ecosystem Is Robust to Two Decades of Doubled Summer Precipitation but Influenced by Plant Dominance

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 12, June 2026.
ABSTRACT In high‐arctic semi‐desert ecosystems, climate projections suggest a doubling of the current ≤ 250 mm annual precipitation by 2075, increasingly falling as summer rain. This is expected to affect the balance among fungal ecological groups and stimulate decomposition over build‐up of soil organic matter.

Exploring Taphrina deformans, the Springtime Scourge of Peach

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 27, Issue 6, June 2026.
This review integrates current knowledge on host–pathogen interactions, epidemiological processes, resistance mechanisms and peach‐resistant varieties, while critically identifying key knowledge gaps. It provides the first comprehensive, integrative description of the Taphrina deformans life cycle in relation to the annual developmental cycle of the ...

The Global Antifungal Susceptibility Epidemiology of Trichophyton indotineae Indicating Voriconazole as an Alternative Therapy for Recalcitrant Dermatophytosis

open access: yesMycoses, Volume 69, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The emergence of Trichophyton indotineae as a multidrug‐resistant dermatophyte has challenged conventional therapeutic approaches for dermatophytosis, leading to a significant therapeutic dilemma. The absence of formal epidemiological cutoff values (ECVs) under the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) framework has led

Efficacy Evaluation of Luliconazole‐Loaded Nanostructured Lipid Carriers in Treatment‐Resistant Dermatophytosis: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesMycoses, Volume 69, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Dermatophytosis is a common superficial fungal infection that is increasingly complicated by terbinafine (TRB)‐resistant strains, especially Trichophyton indotineae. Conventional antifungals often show limited efficacy against resistant isolates, highlighting the need for novel treatments.
